OK..help this DL newbie please. Tell me about the monorail. Where are the stops? Does it go through both parks? DTD? Any hotels?? TIA:wizard:

The monorail has two stops: Tomorrowland (inside DL) and DTD. You must have DL park admission to ride the monorail if you get on at DTD. Also, it is a one-way ride if you get on at DTD. If you board in Tomorrowland, you can ride round-trip, but must get off once you return to Tomorrowland. It does go through part of DCA and the Grand Californian (but unlike the Contemporary at WDW, it stays on the outside the hotel).

They will check your bags and scan your ticket at the DTD station, just as if you were entering the park through the main entrance.

It's a fun way to go from DL to DTD if you are leaving the park to go to a Disney hotel or if you are planning to eat, shop, or see a movie at DTD.

Just like what the pp said it is more of a attraction than a transportaion ride.

The DLR uses the new Mark VII monorails, they were brought online in 2008-2009. They have three Mark VII monorails (red, blue and orange).

You can ride in the front cabin or the rear cabin of the monorail if it is available. The best chance to be in the front or the back is to be at the front gate or back gate at the Tomorrowland station. Everyone who was on the monorail that came into the Tomorrowland station from DTD must exit the monorail. If you are getting on the monorail from DTD, their is still a possibility that the guests who rode in the front or back will get off at the DTD station and let the next group waiting at the station to ride up front or back. But guests will stay in the cabins to ride around the park. Than when you are at the front or back gate you ask a CM if you or your party can ride in front or the back. The monorail front cabin can accept 4-5 people up front while the back cabin can take around 5-6 people. You can go a round trip from the Tomorrowland station, but if you getting on the monorail from the DTD station you will have to exit the monorail when you get to the Tomorrowland station. On very busy days the CM will ask everyone to exit the monorail when it get to the next station.

My take on the DLR monorail . . . it's just about useless as a mode of transportation but fun! At WDW I see the monorail as more of an annoyance - I guess because I am forced to take it to get to and from the TTC/Magic Kingdom. At DLR, it is actually kind of fun. It's like a ride. Ride it at night, it looks and feels really cool lit up. The only useful part of it, IMO is if you are at DTD and want to go right to Tomorrowland without fighting your way through crowds. We did it on the way into the park from Goofy's Kitchen about an hour before fireworks - a time when navigating Main Street can be hairy.

Thanks for all the replies!! It helped tremendously and I look forward to riding the monorail!:cool1::cool1:
