I am petrified of Space Mountain, and can just barely tolerate Big Thunder, but from the video I have seen, it looks as if the Matterhorn is not as rough as Big Thunder and not as scarey as Space Mountain. Oh, I can ride Test Track at EPCOT, but I scream all the way. Should I try the Matterhorn or observe from a distance?

The Matterhorn,to me at least, is slower and bumpier/jerkier than Big Thunder. I say go for it.

It's definitely bumpier than BTMRR, but if you can handle BTMRR, I think you could handle Matterhorn w/o any problem, it seems much slower to me! :thumbsup2

The Matterhorn is really a fun ride, though pretty bumpy. There are two tracks, and the one on the Tomorrowland side has a dip in it. If you want a smoother ride then go on the Fantasyland side. I have a link to a video I did when we rode it - this is the Tomorrowland side. Link is in my signature.

The Matterhorn is a great ride, like BTMRR, but it seems to be a little harsher on the rear end. I definately recommend it.

You can see the cars going around to get an idea before riding. The Matterhorn is a rather slow coaster and does not have any appreciable drops.

Space Mountain is also rather slow but gives the illusion of high speed through use of track design and special effects. Big Thunder feels faster than it is through use of rapid small drops and turns. Matterhorn feels very slow.

Matterhorn speed, 18mph average, 27mph maximum
Space Mountain, 12mph average, 30mph maximum
Big Thunder, 23mph average, 28mph maximum
California Scream'n, 27mph average, 57mph maximum

Matterhorn maximum drop, 12 feet
Big Thunder maximum drop, 30 feet
Space Mountain maximum drop, 15 feet
California Scream'n maximum drop, 108 feet

I have not ridden Space Mountain, because after reading all of the warnings on the sign for the ride, I thought OMG! I don't think so.
For me regarding Big Thunder, I get jostled about quite a bit,and sometimes end up with slightly bruised knee. I do wear that bruise with pride though, so that is OK, :) he he! No really.....
I don't get bruised by the Matterhorn, for their is more leg room. It (Matterhorn) is bumpy, I most definitely agree with those sentiments. And I get tossed about in that ride too, but that is OK as well. I just wish that the abominable snow man would finally get a wife and baby....... let me tell ya, being single can be tough!
I say go on expedition of the Matterhorn, I promise you will enjoy it. You can then tell people that you visited the Matterhorn, and let them think that you have been to Switzerland. And no passport required either, or exchanging currency!

So get out there and have a most magical day!

:flower:

The Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland Park are most asimilar to Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park. To a degree, the former inspired the design of the latter.

The thing about the Matterhorn Bobsleds is that it is mostly outdoors, so you can see where the track is going.

Well, my problem with BTMRR at WDW is the jostling that usually gives me a headache. The last time I rode, I said that was it for me, getting too old for this stuff, so I am going to have to think about the Matterhorn. I can tell you that I did ride Indiana Jones and will ride it again, and while I got jostled around, it was smooth.

The Matterhorn always gives me a headache. I ride BTMRR and Indy but I rarely ride the Matterhorn. I love spack mountain at DLR so it was such a disappointment that the one at WDW was so similar to the matterhorn.
