We are going to Disneyland and I want to take my mother in law to get a message at the Grand Californian spa for her birthday. I was wondering if anyone has ever been there and what your experience was? Do you have any suggestions. I of course, i'm not staying at the hotel itself because it's way to much money for us, but I would like to go to the spa. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!:)

DH and I visited the spa for our anniversary last year. It was VERY nice but very spendy as well. I'd say it was at least twice what we would pay in our home town for a massage. There are some other hotels in the area that have spas. If you are going to have a car it might be worth it to check their rates for massages.

What other hotels in the area have spas? We will have a car and will be staying at the best western park place inn.

DH and I went in February and knew we'd be spending more than normal but it was our first experience/time at the Grand and wanted to take it all in!

We really enjoyed it! We were the last massages of the day and still everything was set up as if we were the first, full iced lemon water, fruit, etc. We didn't feel rushed, I enjoyed the sauna after my massage, shower and prep!

It was nice when it was all over with that we just walked the grounds and then up to our room...very fun!!

The spa is really nice, they are all very friendly but it is a bit over priced. You can always try switchboard.com and look for Day Spas in the area as well as the site the PP mentioned. :)

If you have a car, you can drive to the Burke Williams at the Block in Orange. It takes 5-10 min by car & is my favorite place in the area. It has better rates & far exceeds the amenities of GCH. It has a cool mist room, sauna, hot tubs, relaxation room, etc. Check out their website if you're interested. It says bathing suits are optional. All of the clients that go to the one at the Block do wear suits in the common areas for the women when I go there. You can easily spend a day there.

However, if you're just looking for a quickie inbtwn morning & afternoon rides you may just want to shell out for gch where it's close. It's pretty much just a massage room & bath so you can get in & out fast.

Hope you enjoy your massage w/MIL whatever you decide. :)

I just came back from a 6-day trip and went to 2 spas: Lux Salon (an Aveda salon and spa in the Anaheim Garden Walk) and Mandara Spa at the Grand Californian. This was my first time at Lux (it's fairly new) and have been to Mandara several other times. On a 5-star scale, I'd give both 4 stars. Both have very nice treatment rooms and waiting rooms. Mandara also has a sauna and steam room that customers can use for no additional cost.

I actually preferred my massage at Lux; it seemed more thorough and intense and my therapist was delightful. Plus a 90-minute massage was the same price as a one-hour massage at Mandara. In addition, they had a $30 discount coupon on their website, so it was only $110. Mandara charges $168 for one hour ($140 plus a mandatory 20% service fee). Going to the Mandara Spa feels a bit swankier because the Grand is a better setting than a shopping center. But you really can't go wrong with either one.

My experience based on several visits to Mandara is that I prefer their facials over their massages...top-notch services using the excellent Elemis ($$$) line of products.

Hope this helps! What a nice treat for your MIL.
