Tell me about the GF Main Building

We just returned staying at the BC, and are planning for next year. We're thinking about trying the main building concierge with our then 5 and 2yo DDs. Are there a lot of kids in this concierge area? Which floor is it on? Are the rooms non smoking? I was looking online to book, and it wouldn't work with a non smoking request, which we really would like. Also, how are the views? I know we're not guarenteed a castle view, but what are the others like? Please tell me anything you can about it, or point me to any other threads to read. Thanks!

Also, on kindof another note...if we booked 6nights - 7 days and did a 6 day park hopper....can we use it the first day then for 6 days in a row, and skip the last day? We aren't planning on going to the park on the day we leave.

We are staying in the Main Building next Friday for 6 days and would be glad to answer your questions when we get back! We have a guaranteed Non Smoking room. We also requested a MK view. It is DD's birthday so we are hoping for some PD with getting that MK view! Only 7 more days!

My DH and I just got back from our first stay at the GF, and our first concierge stay. We did notice some chidren in the lounge, but not too many. I have to say they were all well behaved and chaperoned. Concierge is a very very nice experience, but one I don't think I will do again at WDW. If you aren't in the hotel to take advantage of the lounge it is a waste of $$. The offerings are delicious and plentiful, but we seemed to always get there for desserts. Nice to be able to get something for breakfast and sodas etc, but that's a lot of $$ for those ammenities. The other buildings at the GF offer spectacular views without needing to pay for concierge.

We enjoyed our stay at the GF main building with two children, ages 4 and 10. When we stayed (Christmas time) there were many children. The concierge lounge overlooks the lobby and the children were almost always with adults. Our room was on the 4th floor (where the lounge is) so my 10 year old would go start his breakfast a few minutes earlier than we did (as we were gathering our things) and the concierge hosts were always wonderful with him.

Personally, we liked the GF but LOVED the AKL better (and the Poly). The AKL had many more things to keep the kids occupied, like story hour around the fire, cooking classes (although I think the GF may have these), the early morning safari, and of course the animals. When we stayed at the GF another time , my kids enjoyed the Pirate Cruise.

We have always gotten a non-smoking room. Our room (can't remember the number) was on the 4th floor overlooking the marina and castle. It was beautiful. Very well maintained and roomy.

GF concierge is perfect for kids - they have a small couch area and a TV playing diseny stuff. I would say go for it.

We stayed concierge at the GF back in October. We had a fifth floor turret room with a perfect view of the castle. It was so amazing! I did see kids there too in rooms near ours and they were well behaved. I think they would love the experience! It's so special to stay concierge, you feel very VIP. Also, I don't think this was answered in this thread, but the concierge is on levels 3-5 of the main building.

The main building concierge rooms are on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors and are accessible by a special elevator. You have to use your room key for access to your floor. All rooms in the main building are non-smoking. We saw a lot of children when we stayed in the main building concierge earlier this year. However, we LOVED our castle-view lagoon view room the year before. We received a free upgrade this year, so did not pay the extra to stay in the main building, but I do NOT think it would be worth the money. Yeah, the snacks were nice and we loved listening to the music, but, heck, it's the Grand Floridian...a garden view room is nicer than any room in MY house!!!
