We need a place to eat an early dinner on our arrival day (Saturday) with our two kids (3 and 6) after we hit the pool. Can anyone comment on the food options around the resort? I see there's a pizzeria and a place called Sal's - is it the same thing? How is the Trattoria? Is there service around the pool (and until what time)? Would The Kitchen at HRH be better (food-wise)? My back-up plan is the sushi bar at RPR, but we're already going over to Tchoup Tchoup on a different evening, so if I do that I might as well just switch my reservation to RPR!

Also, how's breakfast at PBH? Would it be better to go to breakfast at the park?

My favourite restaurant in the entire Universal Orlando Resort is there. Sal's Deli serves wonderful pizza at a great price! I highly recommend it.

We have never visited PBH, we always stay at RPR and visit HRH. I think this time we are going to have lunch at PBH just because all of the pizza reviews.:thumbsup2

Oh, that's great to hear! :thumbsup2 We'll be in the deluxe dining plan during the second part of our vacation at AKL, so I think (good) pizza would be perfect for that first night.

No matter what resort we stay at we always go to Sal's for pizza twice during our stays. We have a Caesar salad and the pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and peppers and then have something yummy for dessert. We have always been thrilled with it.

We always do the word searches on the kids' colouring page (lol, we are all adults) and last time the waitress said whoever finished the puzzle first got free dessert. It was pretty funny and very yummy.

Sal's Pizza rocks! We stay at PBH and dine at least twice during every trip.

Sal's pizza is decent, nothing special if you're from a pizza capital like NY -- but it's among the better pizzas in Florida. I actually like the paninis better.

Mama's was so-so -- I had the chicken parm and it wasn't so good. My mother had a seafood plate of some kind and enjoyed it. Atmosphere is nice, and serivice in both places is friendly. Sal's can be a little slow.

Eat outside when they have the singers on the balcony, it makes for a real pleasant evening.

For the record, I was an RPR person until I stayed at PBH. RPR is nice, but PBH is just a fantastic resort.

Thanks for the info! I lived in NYC for 7 years, but it's been a while, so my pizza standards have relaxed quite a bit. Do you know when the singers are out on the balcony? Is it depending on the day/time?

Is there usually a wait at Sal's Deli? If we show up around 6:30 or so will there be a long line?

we call from the boat dock on our way back from city walk....food is usually ready by the time we get there

I think it varies -- but usually in the 7pm-ish range. It's a short show, maybe 20-30 minutes, and the music selection is a little on the cheesy side, but it's a real pleasant experience overall.

Probably -- I've never done it, but another poster says you can call ahead:

If that's true, that's pretty good -- but I imagine you still have to wait in the same line to pick it up and pay for it.

I really don't care too much how long it takes to actually get my food when I'm not in a park, I'm a take-it-slow kinda guy at dinner (within reason)... but the long line to order your food before the wait to get it is the part that's a little inconvenient, in my book.

I'll second Sal's pizza. You order at the counter then they bring it to your table when it's ready. There's seating inside and outside.

i second this. love the pizza.
