Ok, I know this is insane. I've asked about SoG because I THOUGHT we were staying there with friends. Now it turns out we're not, so I started to look into moderates. So I asked about CSR and CBR. And now, of all things, it turns out we are DEFINITELY staying at POR.

Never been there. Have no clue (other than what I'm starting to read).

Give me your opinions and such...

Hi There Annie&Hallie'sMom!

POR is great and I think you're going to be happy with your choice. I think you get alot of bang for your buck at this resort and I'll list for you what I like best about this place:

1. It's truly a beautiful resort with lush landscaping throughout and it's wonderfully maintained.

2. Love the free boatride to Downtown Disney...it's relaxing and very informative as the boat "captains" sometimes give you tidbits of info regarding the Disney resort and such.

3. The Food Court, in my opinion, is one of the best on Disney property...i love the atmosphere as it is so woodsy and open-air feeling. They have alot of choices and it's filled with windows so you can see the outdoors with the river and marina.

4. You have two choices for rooms...you can stay on the stately mansion side of the resort or you can stay in what I prefer, which is the Alligator Bayou side...which is more cozy and rustic.

5. The Pool there is nicely themed with a decent water slide.

6. Wonderful trails around the property leading beside the river and trees with little bridges over the inlets of water leading to the river...many times in the morning, you can catch baby bunnies hopping around.

7. Overall atmosphere is cozy and quiet in comparison to some of the other resorts.

8. Many enjoy Bob Jackson at the bar there in the main building. It's a great place to unwind after a busy day at the parks.

9. You get access to the pool at Port Orleans French Quarter, since it is considered the sister resort.

If you want a building close to the food court and main swimming pool, I'd request building 14 or 27 in Alligator Bayou. 14 is non-smoking and I think 27 is also...but not completely sure.

I'm going there in May and can't wait to return. This will be my fifth time to stay here. If you have anymore questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Hope you have a wonderful time on your trip! Oh, and be sure to check the pictures of POR at allearsnet.com. There are tons of pictures there for you to check out. :wave2:

You'll love Por we just got back a few weeks ago. We really enjoyed POR. Not much to add.

WE WERE THERE IN FEB. AND I CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS RESORT. I STAYED IN AB# 2716, BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPING, GREAT POOLS, NICE HOT TUB (ALTHOUGH RATHER SMALL FOR SUCH A BIG RESORT) LOVED THE FOOD COURT AND GIFT SHOP. EVERYONE THERE WAS SOOOOO FRIENDLY.

LAH

It's definitely a great "bang for you buck" as someone said,,the resort is beautiful and relaxing, and the food court is one of the best!! You'll have a great time!!

Christine

chicky monkey pretty much summed it up.
We stayed there in 2002 and when we left I vowed never to stay off property again.
Great choice!

These opinions are all good to hear! We are going to be at POR for the first time this May! I can't wait! (I'm more excited than my kids! )

Just got back from POR. Its the only resort Kathy and I have stayed at twice. We absolutely love it. Super landscaping. Great restaurant -- You have to try the jambalya. Two of the three best food courts at all of Disney. (Pepper Market at Coronado Springs is the other) Take the ferry down to French Quarter to try the Benets at the court there one morning.

The refurbished pool at Old Man Island is great. Remember they have towels available there but you have to bring towels from the room to the quiet pools.

Probably the best lodging buy at Disney. Enjoy!:wave2:

I almost forgot, Try a horse drawn carriage ride of the Port Orleans area. Only 30 bucks. They will pick you up right outside the food court. You need to call a day or so in advance.

Port Orleans Riverside/ Dixie Landings to me, is in my opinion the best resort there for what you get for your money.
I mean there are somewhat nicer resorts for lots more money, but POR gives you the feel and ambiance of those resorts for a much lower price. It is a great resort.

OUR FAVORITE!!!! We'll be there for the 3rd time in just afew days. Have only stayed in Aligator Bayou so far, would love to try the mansions, the whole place is gorgeous, the kids love it, I'd sleep down by the river if I had to.

Hi Uncle Indy:

Do the POR rooms have a curtain by the sinks like the french quarter now has.

How did you find the room conditions?

Thanks,

Deb.

Is there a 'campfire' program at POR? I thought I read that somewhere a while back, but can't find anything on it now.
Thanks!
DJ

Cottontail, we just got back from POR. To answer you questions about the curtain, the answer is no. Since Riverside is just beginning renovations, the rooms have not dividing curtain. I suspect they'll add that when the renovate the rooms.

Honestly, unless you need privacy, it's not a big deal and to me it would make the room seem smaller. It would be nice, however for putting a baby to sleep back there or something.

If you really need one, I'd just take a suspension rod and a shower curtain!

We went to the campfire the beginning of March and we lucked out it was the last one they where having for the season. The kids enjoyed the campfire the roasted marshmellows and the read stories to the kids.

Hi, I have to agree with all the above posters who pretty much summed up the experience. My last stay there was Nov. 2003 and had a great time. The resort, although spread out, isn't as large as the other moderates so even if you are put in the furthest home/mansion your will at best only have a 5/7 minute walk to the main bldg. I know that there are a few who don't like it because it has that woodsy feel about it but the grounds are beautifully landscaped and the entire property has a very peaceful/serene feel about it. I love the mansions which has that French Quarter room look to it. I last stayed in Magnolia Terrace (easy access to Ole Man Isle and Main bldg) and enjoyed the daily walks in the rose garden and sitting in the gazebo just people watching for awhile. POFQ is just a short walk away for more food options and entertainment. Bob Jackson is wonderful and it is fun to participate in his shows. I also rented a bike one day and rode around the property to check it out. The boat to DTD is also very peaceful and sometimes, as stated above, very informative. I really have nothing bad to say about the resort and will be staying there again in the future.

P.S. - as long as the door is closed to the bathroom, you do have room to get dressed in there (there are hooks on the door to hang your clothes on) and there is a small ledge on the back side of the tub to sit down on as well.

Well...EVERYONE has summed up this resort perfect. We have been to POR every year since 2000 and twice in 02 and going back this August and for Thanksgiving week.

Its our summer home away from home. You will love this resort.

As far as the bathrooms go, they are big enough to put clothes on and off and thats about it. It would be hard for an adult but for kids I am sure dressing in the bathroom would be no problem.

There are no mirrors in the actual bathroom, but there are two mirrors and two sinks just outside the bath. (oops sorry, there is a mirror behind the bath door.)

I will NEVER say a bad thing about this resort. The food court, Boatrights, main pool, quiet pools, laundry facilities, AND most of all...........Bob Jackson in the River Roost.

He plays Wed. thru Sat from 8:30 PM to 12 Mid. Try to see him. Its good clean fun for ALL ages.

Check out his website.....www.yehaabob.com

He is a hoot. What a great way to end the day.

Deb:
The bathroom is fairly tight as it only contains the comode and the bath tub / shower. But I think you could get dressed in there.:wave2:
