I am staying at the Old Key West July 18-22 for the first time. My husband and I have two boys, 5 and 4. We are really going to try to avoid the main parks and do many of the things we keep missing (Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon, Disney Quest etc.) We are staying in a one bed room unit.

If anyone has any special insight, or anything that would make it more enjoyable for my boys, please respond!!! You can PM me or e-mail me directly at bunnybomb@comcast.net.

I would be so grateful for tips! I am usually the one giving out the info, but this is one of the few places I haven't stayed at.

Thank you!

Rochelle

We are DVC members and OKW was our first home. We love it there. Check out the DVC Board to find out more about OKW. It's more like an apartment complex where you can part at your door instead of in a large parking lot. You will have a washer and dryer in your unit, king sized bed in the master bedroom, and queen size sleeper sofa in the living room. You'll get a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom, plus a standalone shower. Full sized kitchen, dining room table, etc. You also have a large balcony/patio with table and chairs. Either a golf course or water view (or both). There are three quiet pools and one main pool. No slide at the pool right now, but a slide is going to be added in the fall. You can ride a boat over to DTD, go fishing, rent surrey bikes, exercise in the exercise room.

You are very neat Typhoon Lagoon, so you might want to drive over there.

There is a great sit down restaurant, Olivias, plus a pool side bar at the main pool and the Turtle Pond pool.

My kids LOVE Old Key West. It is peaceful and charming. It's a wonderful, laid-back, relaxing place to spend time away from all the chaos around WDW. We always have fun there.

My kids like the ferry ride to Downtown Disney. This is free. It runs from about noon to 9 or 10pm. They also like to get ice cream at the General Store and eat it down by the boat dock. You can rent power boats or larger boats -- we did this once and went all the way to Saratoga Springs and back. They also enjoy the Turtle Pond area pool, which has a snack bar with great strawberry smoothies, and the quiet pools because they are typically very warm. There are playgrounds by the pools.

The resort is home to LOTS of critters. We always go through loaves and loaves of bread. Lots of birds, ducks and bunnies who are all quite tame. The little lizards are all over too, and we love these as we don't have them in Indiana. The kids want to feed every animal we meet!

It's nice staying in a 1-bedroom. The room is very big. The kids will love the whirlpool tub. The living room is large and will have a dvd player. You can borrow movies from the "rent and return" by the main pool. We have also plugged a Nintendo system into the tv. The living area is nice to relax in. There is a full-size kitchen. We order Pizza Hut sometimes; they deliver right to your door. My kids think this is cool... :) The front desk can probably give you their number.

Hope this helps get you started. We LOVE OKW! :)

We LOVE OKW!! It was one of our favorite vacations. I've always wanted to do what you are doing by seeing and spending time at all the WDW attractions that we ignore. But!! Every single time I find myself at Epcot, MGM, and MK. I can't help it. If I'm there, I must go. It's like a "calling".

Let us know how the trip goes. I seldom see reviews on Disney Quest.

Thanks,

MDF
