Hi all - My trip is fast approaching and looking for insight from those of you who have flown into TPA and rented a car at the terminal? I am currently booked to rent through Avis.

Any tips or other things I should know? Will just be myself and 2, 6 yr olds. They have flown numerous times but I have never flown into TPA. Oh and I have never rented a car! :scared:

My plane is scheduled to land at 10, not planning to check any luggage but I will have my stroller.

Thanks!

It's been a year for me, so I might be a little off. But, follow the signs for rental car. You'll get to a point where you'll board a train (like a monorail). That will take you first to a parking structure (stay on the train) then to the rental car area. You get off the train and find your rental car company.

After you check in (either counter or kiosk depending on company), follow the signs to the appropriate garage level.

Get in your car and drive off.

When you return, you park in the appropriate spot in the garage, and do everything in reverse. There is a drop off area for checked luggage before you board the train (only for certain airlines IIRC).

As sam_gordon said, very easy to get to rental car garage. Train runs frequently. Only additional suggestion I can make is if you need to eat at the airport on your return trip, check the website for restaurant locations. There are some big ones pre-security and each terminal has a few places (some generic, some unique). I believe it would be hard to terminal hop because each hallway has a representative to check if you "belong" in that terminal and each terminal has its own security (spoked wheel layout).
