Tell me about July

Merci beaucoup :)

As there are 4 of us i might pick something up when we get there to save on luggage weight :thumbsup2

The only time I got properly bitten (more than a couple) was in Typhoon Lagoon - mosquitos EVERYHERE, to the extent we left the park. That was a few years ago now though, and it was mid-August.

We buy suncream when we arrive, never thought to check if it's insect repellant or not. HATE the spray ones though!

I never see them either, and u didn't see any bite me at Typhoon Lagoon, but I did see them EVERYWHERE else. They were just crawling and flying around everywhere, especially in the sand around the main pool. We tried to eat lunch but wound up leaving it behind because they were just everywhere, it was awful...

But I've spent over 20 weeks in Florida over the years, been to Typhoon Lagoon probably 5 times, and only ever had one bad mosquito day, so they're not really a problem.

you'll also need insect repellent if you're leaving disney property, where they don't spray.

That's not true. Orange County has county-wide spraying program, and the same can broadly be said for all Florida counties. There is no better protection inside our outside of Disney, so no need to worry wherever you are.

thanks for the correction.

The problem is that county/city spraying only goes so far as public areas. Private areas are the responsibility of the owners.
Not just spraying, but taking care of standing water.
We have the same issue where we live. The municipality sprays, but private property harbors a lot of standing water where those little pests multiply.

this is interesting reading..

mosquito safety - if you read this, you'll never want to go to florida again :)

We loved July last year.

We stocked up on a few cans of OFF! spray and it worked a treat. Spray it outdoors though. You can barely breathe from the fumes, despite what it says on the packaging. Spray liberally around ankles and lower calves and shins and if you plan on sitting down on the ground waiting for parades, spray the backs of your legs, particularly if you are wearing shorts. We found the worst bites came from the ground, not the airborne bugs.

Thanks 2Tighies I might try that as I am more prone than anyone else to bites. Did you get that from the USA?

Whilst they don't routinely spray private property, they can and will do so if there is an issue. The law permits the county to inspect, monitor and treat private land - and also to give private land owners notice that THEY must deal with their mosquito problems, so private land owners largely comply to avoid dealing with this. This is why mosquito control is exemplary throughout the state and why Florida is often cited as a leading example internationally. We have never applied insect repellant whilst out there, and - short of that day at Typhoon Lagoon - never found mosquitos to be an issue.

Yes, I ordered it online from amazon.com, along with our sun creams, waters and snacks for the room and had them all delivered to the resort. For 2 of us we went through about a can and a half per week so check out the multi unit deals for better value. It was $10.99 a pop at the resort shop and we had to top up from there in the last few days.

We go July/August usually and love it, it's my favourite time to go, the heat is hot & sticky but your in the happiest place on earth, at least you know you'll have nice weather :-) Id much rather the heat and humidity of disney world than go on a holiday here and have a week of rain and cold (even in the summer lol)

We always buy a fan each with the water spray they are a god send :-) remember you can always escape the heat by going swimming or going into an air-conditioned shop, and you will always go back to an air-conditioned room at the end of the day so you'll be able to sleep comfortably and you'll be well rested for your next day :-)

back in 2013 when I last went we wanted to sit down main street so we had a good spot for the parade, only problem was the floor was too hot, we ended up going in a shop and hitting a towel just so we could sit down lol, maybe take something to sit on if you want to get a decent spot for the parade :-) we took cooling mist body spray :-) was heavenly, think my mum got it from either boots, Avon or Asda.

Don't worry of you get caught in the rain and get soaked through, you'll drive of quickly any way haha! However Id say take shelter in a storm and even just after last time we took shelter at the bus stops at Magic Kingdom and once the rain stopped we made our way to the entrance, the clouds were no longer over head and sly was clearing and a strike of lighted came out of no where and hit the ground next to us!! We have never been so close to being struck by lightening before, an it was so loud it scared a lot of kids! But to be fair it scared us adults! So just be careful :-)
