Hi!

Anyone want to share their experiences with getting their kids hair cut at WDW? I have read about it on the boards a few times and it sounds pretty cool. We're doing a long trip this time, so we're able to do a few of the things we normally wouldn't have time for.

Anyway, I have a 6 year old son and a 2 1/2 year old daughter. How much does it cost to have a child's hair trimmed there? Is there anything that makes it special, other than you can say you had it cut at WDW?

Also, I think I read they make a big deal about first-time haircuts there. My sister is bringing her baby on this trip as well. I thought that might be fun for her too. Any info. on first-time haircuts?

Thanks, in advance, for your replies!

We have had DS hair cut at the MK Barber shop. It is $14 for kids and $17 for adults, unless the price increased at the beginning of the year.

They do offer to put color gel in the hair and will do a Mickey head in the back. They also sprinkle with pixie dust. For the first haircut, they will save the hair and give you a set of Mickey ears with My First Haircut on them and give you a certificate as well.

The barbers are great with kids and have a good time with everyone.

DS insisted on waiting to get his hair cut at MK instead of the usual place in town. They will do whatever kind of cut you want, or will just put the gel in and do whatever colors or design you'd like, though I'm not sure if they charge the same as a cut or not.

DS was wearing red & blue that day so he asked for a red, white & blue look. They did wide stripes of red, white & blue on the top of his head & spiked it. Then they added the multi-colored mickey head confetti on top of the that. On the back of his head he had a red, white & blue mickey head.

They will, however, do other designs if you'd like. A man was celebrating his 29th b-day and got pinkgel, plus the barber drew flowers on the back of his head for a joke. The guy had a great sense of humor & loved it!

I say go for it! :sunny:

Do try to either get there first thing in the morning when the parks open, or sometime right before or during the afternoon parade, otherwise you might have a long wait. There are only 2 chairs in the shop.

My 5 yo ds had his hair cut at the Barbershop on Christmas Eve. Normally, ds does not like to wait for much of anything. Surprisingly, he was undaunted by the long, slow moving line here. A surprising number of adults were getting haircuts, gel, and pixie dust. Be forewarned: the green gel ds selected was quite difficult to wash out.

Here is a picture of my ds right after his cut.

My husband gets his haircut in the MK. DD 9 & 11 love it. They gel him & give him pixie dust. That pixie dust made it's way home with us in the dirty laundry bag! :scratchin

Thinking about getting DDs hair cut at the MK Barbershop. She has pretty long hair in the back with "baby curls". She's never had a hair cut other than her bangs trimmed. Anyone had a little girl's haircut there? Is that something they would be able to do or is that more "beautyshoppy" than "barbershoppy"? :teeth:

Thanks

You can take your DD. The Main Street Barber Shop is a victorian theme with a woman & man barber in period dress.

They do both girls/women and boys/men - No Problem!! Go for it! The first haircut is special and from what I've heard they are GREAT at keeping little ones distracted!

I've been keeping DS's hair trimmed at home because I want his first professional haircut to be at WDW! (counts as a first haircut to me!)

By the way, I was recently told by MY hairdresser that they don't recommend using the term hair CUT since (older) little kids learn that a cut hurts and can relate that to a hair cut - better to use the word trim.

DS & DH both had their haircuts there in 2004. They did a great job on both. DS7 was wearing a Carolina Panthers jersey (...GO PANTHERS!!! ) the guy cutting put a bright Panthers blue gel in his hair, spiked it and Mickey-glitter confetti. DD4 didn't want a hair cut but was wearing a Tinkerbell t-shirt, the lady, styled her hair up like Tinkerbell, put yellow gel & Mickey confetti in it. She loved it BUT they really teased her hair alot, she has very fine hair and I had to leave conditioner in her hair all night. DH was very pleased with his haircut. It's alot of fun.

We finally stopped in the Main Street Barber Shop and my girls got cuts and styles with glitter/pixie dust. We have been on over 30 trips to WDW and just happened to hit it with no line. They both loved the experience!! My younger daughter wound up being filmed and on TV on GAC's top 20 countdown, too!! It was so cool & probably the best deal in the MK!! ;) We will definitely try and do it again! :flower:

Happy travels,
