I realize it's HOT....will we be miserable? Southwest has a $59 sale right now from B'ham to Orlando, which with points I could fly all four of us for free....but we kind of want to try Ft Wilderness again. THe last time we took the camper was in May of 2009 I believe, stayed for 10 days and it rained the WHOLE 10 days!

Well, we're planning to go in May, so I hope it's not unbearable. I think it would be a great time of year to visit, but you never can tell with the weather.

I don't know if this helps, but someone posted here a couple of years ago about flying their things down and tent camping at the Fort. Would that be an option for you? If nothing else, you could fly your sleeping things down, and then buy a tent at Walmart when you get there. Add a few cheap chairs, and you could have a great, cheap trip, and not even have to do any driving.

mh1973,

How exactly are you planning to stay at the Fort if you fly? Cabins or tent? We have several recent threads if you scroll/search about tenting during the summer. Some of it takes some planning and if you fly maybe some advance shipping.

If the Fort doesn't work out maybe you can get a Value Resort and spend some of your spare time over here. I understand taking advantage of the cheap fares but the heat/humidity all day and at night can be tough in the summer in Central Florida.

I meant, driving the 5th wheel down vs flying and staying at POR. Sorry, I didn't clarify that very well. Just wondering if we would be miserable at the campground in the summer with the heat and humidity.

It's hot. It's just HOT! And, Summer is hurricane season down here.....and we typically get thunderstorms a majority of the afternoons during Summer.
