We usually go to DW the first week of December. For 2015 we are thinking about going in October so we can make the most out of our Annual Passes and go to the Halloween Party. How are the crowds that time of year?

Hi,

In general, any time schools are in session you can expect crowds to be low to moderate. Weekends will usually be busier than weekdays.

I really depends on the week. More and more school districts are adding a Fall break around the week of Columbus Day. Most report each year the crowds have grown during October. It is not the low crowd time it was 5 years ago. I would look at easywdw to see the crowd calendars from this past year.

The crowds seem to be heavier now than in past years no matter what time you are there. 5 years ago, October was the best time due to the Holiday events, Food and Wine and lower crowd levels. Since then, some school systems now have a fall break in October, combined with the Columbus day week it seems crowds are heavier.

We were there the first week of October and it was pretty busy compared to past years. Most rides were between 30 and 50 minute waits in MK and Epcot. HS and AK were less on the days we were there. I would say the crowd level was a 5/6 while we were there. Manageable, but not low.

Weather is awesome!, Food and Wine is a lot of fun, MNSSHP is the best ticketed event Disney does in our opinion and if you can avoid the vacation weeks the crowds can be lower.

We have been the last week of September through to the first week of October and we found it to be much less crowded (but we do usually go in August). All the Halloween decs are up to so it's a really nice atmosphere and ride waiting times weren't that long :goodvibes

Didn't really thing about the end of September. We are leaning towards the 3 week in October now. I have never been to WDW in October. Only summer and every December so it is a bit out of our comfort zone planning a trip then. I dont know what to expect with the weather, crowds, and resorts (DVC) availability. Thank you for all of your help.

(DVC) availability
DVC gets pretty tight in October...the combination of lower points and Food & Wine are very popular.

There's one catch in the MK regarding October crowds: on non-Halloween party nights, the MK is often July-level crowded (can't find the blog post from EasyWDW, but he said this once). Later in October, there are four parties a week, funneling everybody that would normally see the MSEP and Wishes evenly over the course of seven nights into three nights.

We've done WDW the 1st week of December several times and also in October. I would say that it is more crowded in October as many schools are on fall break, but still very manageable. It is a great time of the year to go. The decorations in MK are great. I am not typically a Halloween person and did not think there was any way I would like MNSSHP party better than MVMCP, but the whole family things it is a lot more fun than MVMCP even though we love MVMCP. There is just something special about seeing all the guests, even adults, running around in Halloween costumes, and the special lighting and décor, and the Haunted Mansion area. Food and Wine is fun too. We love both October and December. If you haven't done October, you ought to give it a try!
