Do you have it & do you like it???
Thinking about getting it for my yard...
Wondering also if it is something that would be at Lowe's & Home Depot or would I have to go to a nursery...

Thanks.

I believe you can get them there. Be aware, though. While they arevery beautiful they are also VERY messy. DO NOT plant one near where you park your car. Nightmare!!!!

I went to a nursery and bought a dwarf crepe myrtle and I love it. I made sure to buy it at a nursery because I live in NY and I needed one that was cold hardy and Lowe's doesn't always have the right plants for the right zones. I love mine!

dwarf crape myrtle?? :confused3

I thought they only grew to 10-12 feet to beging with.. :confused3

Shep- I'll see if I can find the name of the dwarf crepe myrtle. It only grows 5-6 feet, more like a shrub. That's what attracted me to it. I don't have that much room and I love crepe myrtle so this was the perfect answer.

I have two crepe myrtle's in my yard - love 'em when they are blooming - hate 'em when they are not! When I first saw the house when I was "House Hunting" it was in mid-April, and I thought to myself - yuck - that will have to go - just not right for a front yard in FL.... but when I pulled up to the house the day of my walk thru before closing - end of May - it was beautiful - bright pink. I have thought about taking them out the last two springs, and then rememer the flowers. I think I will keep one, and replace the other with a palm of some type.

I put 2 in this past summer. I got both of them at a nursery. One is a dark red and the other a light pink. They also have different growth heights and widths. The nursery where I bought them had at least a dozen different types. I had only intended to buy one. I couldn't decide so that is why I ended up with 2.

I first saw them at a hotel we stayed in on the way down south. They were quite large and wide. Beautiful pink blossoms. I would enjoy having them in my yard if I could find one hardy enough.

Something that you may want to watch for is the tiny crape myrtles that they sell as annuals at Home Depot. They are inexpensive (Like $1.50) and bloom like crazy. They usually have them in with the annuals that are in purple pots.

I have had mine in pots for several years. This year I am going to put those into the ground and get some new small ones for my pots.

We have lavender (the flower color) crepe myrtles as our street trees and love them! They are pretty all the time, especially when they are in flower, and as they grow the bark starts to slough off and makes beautiful patterns on the tree trunk.

UGH!!! Hate these stupid trees! I think because they are EVERYWHERE!!!

If I could rip the one out of my front yard, I would do it in a heartbeat and replace it with a dogwood!

Lots of people love them, but I just don't get the attraction.

My crepe myrtle story- one of the numerous hurricanes hit us and a crepe myrtle by the front door was torn out at the ground level; broke my heart because I had planted it myself. Wind blew it to the neighbor's yard and the next day I dragged it back to our yard intending to use it to make an arbor. Later that day returning from work I saw the tree in the neighbor's yard again; puzzled but determined I dragged it back. I went shopping and returned to the tree in the neighbor's yard AGAIN! As I started to drag it back muttering the neighbor came out and asked what I was doing- turns out he thought it was HIS tree and wondered why it kept ending up in my yard LOL! He then went searching for his missing tree...
BTW, the tree grew back! Lots of volunteers came up so I ended up trimming out all but 3 and grew another lovely crepe myrtle(s)!

I like Crepe Myrtle. The next door neighbor had a nice one and then new people bought the house and ripped it out. Now it is all ugly in their front yard because they ripped that out as well as all the rain lillies. I preferred the little old lady that lived there since she actually took care of the yard and it looked decent these people could care less and don't even live there so they let the weeds grow (into my yard :( )

We have 5 crepe myrtles in our yard. They are only a couple of years old. When can I trim them or is it too late this season? I don't want to trim them down to the trunk or anything I just want to shape them up a bit.

Trim them up now, it's a good time.

I love my crepe myrtles. I buy at least one new one a year. Some I have trained as trees and others as bushes. Agreed about planting them near driveways and cars, their sap can be a pain in some climates. I like them for their shapes, easy natures and disease free qualities (at least in zone 9).
