We have never been to Artist Point. Please give me the good, the bad and the ugly on this restaurant. Do you recommend it? Is it worth it? Would the children ages 8, 7 and 4 yrs old enjoy it? Any and all reviews would be helpful.

Just giving this a bump as I am interested too.

We love AP. You might want to check out the menu here on the DIS at:

Without knowing what you like for dining experiences, its difficult to say if its right for you. This tends to be more of a fine-dining experience with a nice quiet atmosphere. If that's what you are looking for then you won't be disappointed. With young children you'll probably want to make reservations for earlier in the evening as the mix of diners tends to get older as the night goes on.

I was just there last week - for a business dinner. Prices are pretty expensive, the the food is very good. Atmsophere is one of the quietest in a Disney restaurant - but there were children, there almost always are at Disney - someone's kid was throwing a tantrum (and they didn't remove the kid) for about ten minutes - and that sort of thing wasn't appropriate for the atmosphere. It can be a lengthy meal.

Food and theming is a little "on the game side" - salmon, buffalo steak - but also a chicken dish and a steak dish.

We love Artisit Point. I crave the mushroom soup when I'm not at Disney. The menu isn't huge, but its good.

Your children will be welcome but its the type of restaurant where they really need to be "restaurant friendly". As crisi said its not the type of atmosphere where tantrums, loud noises, or runing around the table is acceptable. We took my four year old niece to Jiko once (these restaurants are similar in atmosphere) and she was very good. We thought she did great, but when it came time to plan the next trip the only restaurant she didn't want to return to was Jiko. Apparently even though she was very good, she hated the experience. Your four year old might not like sitting nicely for so long, especially since so much of disney is so active and "fun" for kids

Artist Point used to be my favorite Disney restaurant (and we visited every trip) until our last visit--which was, unfortunately, our LAST visit to this restaurant.

IMHO, it was horrible. The service was so-so, the food awful. They had changed the menu and my beloved Cedar Plank Salmon will never be the same.

The manager saw I wasn't eating and asked what the problem was. I would have complained to the server, but she had disappeared, only to return to give us our check. By the time the manager came over, everyone else was finished with their meal. He offered to get me something else, but at this point, I just wanted to leave. Fortunately, he didn't charge me for my meal, which was nice and not necessary. I figured it was my problem if I didn't like the food. I was just disappointed that the menu had been changed so drastically. I won't be going back anytime soon--if ever.

well I won't know the diference in the menu change because I never have eaten there on my past trips but got ADRs for my Christmas dinner there, I thought that was the right place to me. As far as not a good waitstaff, I don't mind that if the food is good:thumbsup2

Artist Point is a favorite of my husband and I but without our kids (14 and 12) It's not the type of restaurant they would appreciate (food choices or atmosphere) and the meal is a bit long so I know they would get bored after a while. I certainly wouldn't bring a little one there. We had an absolutely wonderful waiter during our last trip in June 07. He was an obvious "professional waiter", very knowledgable about the food and wine, was very attentive, etc. We couldn't have had a better experience. I highly recommend giving it a try. :thumbsup2

We went to AP for the first time last month. DH and I thought it was very nice. We were seated by a window with the view of the little geyser river thing. The service was just attentive enough. When the server noticed that DH didn't eat his venison spring rolls (DH said he was again assured that he didn't like venison) he took them off the bill w/o us even asking.

I have to agree that while kids are definitely accepted at the restaurant, it relaly is more of an "adult" atmosphere. We used it as a date night while the ILs watched DS.

When we brought our DS he was 9. We had dinner early, around 6 pm. The restaurant was not crowded and there were a lot of younger children there. Everyone seemed well behaved. My DS did notice that there were people there that were not dressed "business casual" since he was forced to. LOL The restaurant was beautiful.

I dislike venison also - but I loved those spring rolls!! Maybe I was just really hungry??

No restaurant is immune to bad reviews, but this sounds so un-Artist Point like. There service is usually top notch; very professional and knowledgeable. At least they removed the unwanted dish from the bill - that is a classy move. I haven't seen a new menu so I cannot speak to a change in the salmon dish, but that was always their signature. It is surprising to hear that they would get rid of it. Maybe this is a seasonal change?

While Artist Point is not one of my favorite signatures because the cuisine is not my fav, I do find it to be more kid enjoyable than some of the other signatures and I've always seen families dining here. The decor is casual, think rustic cabin, and the views out the windows are nice. They have a board at the check in area where they post the kids' coloring. And they have a great children's dessert here.

It is quiet and the tables are nicely spaced, a rare treat at a Disney restaurant.

I wanted to add that we had ressies at 9:30 and the restaurant was practically empty. Even if there had been kids there, it wouldn't have bothered many people. LOL
I had a halibut dish that was delicious. DH had the salmon and he said it was really good too. I do think that I read somewhere that sometimes the salmon is not wild and that makes a big diff in the taste (they will say it's farm salmon when it is)

OP, I also wanted to say that I love your siggy pic. It's beautiful.

Artist Point has been a favorite of our families (and all our out of town guests) since the day they opened the doors.

The food has always been top notch. Current chef and manager are outstanding.

Yes there are kids in the place. We have taken our granddaughter when she was 2 and when she was 4. She dines out with us in nice places a lot, so is used to good food/good restaurants. She is usually very well behaved, but, my son and his wife understand that if for some reason she is not in the mood to sit through a 2 hour or longer dinner, one of them will leave the dining room with her. Only once in all our times dining with her did my son have to leave with her. We won't allow her to interrupt other diners.

Also, when we now have the three granddaughters with us, we go for the earliest reservation, usually right when the restaurants open. The restaurant isn't quite as full, service is a little faster, and it isn't anywhere near the girls bedtimes so they are still in good moods.

We dined at Artist Point with my son when he was 2 and he was fine at the restaurant. He loved watching the waterfall and looking at the murals on the walls.

On that note, we also made sure to take him to an early dinner to avoid fussiness and also made sure we ordered appetizers so he would have food to munch on while we waited for our entrees. If your kids will fidget while various courses are prepared it might not be the most enjoyable experience for you. It's a bit expensive (both out of pocket and dining plan - 2 credits) but we found the food to be excellent in taste and visual appeal, so Artist Point is worthy of a special dinner treat during your stay.

Good luck! :)

We have dined at AP both with our kids and without. They went to the Kids club - Cubs Den. They both enjoyed going there when they were younger and would pick it over AP. It gave them a special night away from Mom and Dad, with their own entertainment and dinner. Mom and Dad get to enjoy a quiet dinner on their own. Its a win-win, if you ask me. Of course, now my girls are tweens and too old for kid's club so it will be a table for four, please!

We were at the artist point just last sunday with my eight year old dd, and my 13 year old litttle sis. The food was wonderful, the spring rolls were my fav. we had the wine pairing with our meal, and flavors were just out of this world. Our server was very attentive, and knew everything you could imagine about the menue, all together the meal was around three hundred dollors, and woth ever penny. I will be making reservations for next summers trip for sure. I loved this place!

This is going to sound like a strange question, but can an adult order off the kids menu?

I have never been to Artist Point, but after looking at the menu, there is nothing I would eat from the regular menu as I'm a vegetarian and allergie to seafood. There is a pasta dish on the kid's menu I'd eat, but I'm afraid they won't let me do that since I'm not a child.

Probably not order off the kids menu, but if you call Disney dining with both your restrictions, they will likely give you the number to the restaurant and you can talk to the chef. I've eaten here a second time since this original post - and had good meals both times - and I'm gluten intolerant. They've done a fine job getting me through the menu. The penne on the kids menu is nothing special - functionally mac n cheese - boxed penne with a Velveeta like cheese over the top of it. My kids think its fantastic, I'm guessing a grownup is going to want something more complex.
