We are flying out of CAK in late December. It's 3 hours away, but we saved a bunch over Buffalo - Niagara. It looks like a pretty small airport? How's the parking? Good hotels nearby? Anything else I should know?

My son is a grad student at Kent State, so he generally flies home via CAK. It is a small airport and very easy to get around. I believe that they have 2 or 3 parking options. I'm not sure about hotels.

The airport is very small. There are several parking lots at various price ranges depending on how close to the terminal you want to be. The nearest hotel is right across the street. It is a relatively new Hilton Garden Inn. I was able to get a decent park and fly rate with them last year. I was not so lucky this year. So, we are staying a little farther away. Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.

CAK is only 40 minutes from my house and it's a small, easy airport. It's great to fly out of because of the ease. Parking is good and there are many hotels about 10 minutes north or south in the Akron or Belden Village area.

It's pretty much a bus station with airplanes(in a good way) Just pull into the economy lot and the shuttle driver will pull behind you,help you with your bags, and drive you to the 2 minutes to the terminal. You can probably get away with showing up an hour before your flight. As mentioned there is a Hilton Garden Inn on property, but there are also plenty of choices the the north(Akron) or just to the South(Canton)with a lot of restaurants as well

"Bus station with airplanes" :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks for the info :thumbsup2 . I saw the Hilton Garden Inn across the street. It looks nice. I did see a Microtel down the road a little and the price is really nice. Anyone stay there before?

At half the price of my local airport, I'm not going to mind the 3 hour drive.

Thanks again for the replies!

We live 10 minutes away & fly out of there all the time, showing up an hour before your flight is plenty of time. Like a pp said, the shuttle driver will be right there to take you to the terminal, however if you do stay at the hotel right there you can leave your car there for free & they will shuttle you.

Check TripAdvisor for this specific Microtel. Sometimes they are fine, sometime sketchy. Posters on TA have never steered me wrong!

We've flown through CAK several times when visiting DH's family. It's small, clean, easy… much nicer than traveling through CLE, and the area hotels are conveniently located and easy to find.

It's my wife's favorite airport. Used to fly AirTran direct to Orlando frequently. Already miss AirTran. Haven't tried Southwest yet but probably will for November trip. As stated, parking is super easy and relatively inexpensive. Rarely lines at security.

One exit north is a relatively new Cambria Suites and 2 exits north are a Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and a brand new Residence Inn.

2 exits south is a large shopping mall with tons of restaurants and a few hotels in the area.
