Tell me about access at the Swan or Dolphin

I am wondering what the disability access is like at the Swan and Dolphin. I think we are going to use a discount and book one or the other.

We would need a roll in shower and would want to take advantage of all transportation options (boat, bus, etc). How is it for someone in a power wheelchair?

I heard there is a lift at the pool?

Anyone stayed there recently? Any pics?

I can run over this weekend and get pics if you like.

I've stayed at the Swan before in a power w/c and had no problems. The resort and grounds are fully accessible although since I can't transfer into water ( trach/vent) I never checked out the pools to see if there's a lift. It was an easy "roll" over to Epcot or you can take the boats also. Hakuna Matata.---Kathy

Thank you, Kathy!

I was talking to Lauren and her little brother about this today and they both said, "Have you asked the DIS? What do THEY say about it?"

You guys are the ones who know! :) Thank you so much for your help!!! :)

Wish I had some pictures and/or knew more. I know that the lobby is fine and if Kathy has vouched for it, it’s accessible.
And, if livndisney can be persuasive, who knows what you will know by next week!
A reviewer in the Passporter Special Needs book wrote the accessible room was the best accessible room she ever stayed in and was well planned.

We have taken the boats between Epcot and the Studio (which also stop at all the Epcot area resorts) many times, so I can verify that they are accessible.

I did not find anything about the pools except this on the Disney official website:
Walt Disney World Dolphin
Walt Disney World Swan
3-acre grotto pool with waterfalls and waterslides, 2 lap pools, a spring pool, a kiddie pool, 4 whirlpools.

That makes me think there is not a zero entry pool, since the Disney website specifically lists zero entry for the other pools that I know are zero entry.

hI Maroo,

I will be staying at the Dolphin in April. I will let you know how it goes.:)

We stayed at the Dolpin a few weeks ago. I was in a regular room and my parents were in the accessible room. Dad is a double amputee and just raved about how accessible the room was and how the shower was huge with convenient benches, grab bars an easy reach shower wand and controls. I am pretty sure that all accessible rooms only accomodate 2 since there is only a king size bed. You could maybe fit a rollaway but that would make it difficult with a wheelchair in the morning.

Thank you so much, Sue and Justin!

I talked to livndisney on Saturday and told her that I felt pretty good after speaking with two different people at the Swan over the last few days. They have a large room (360 sq feet) that has a roll in shower.

I will definitely take pictures while we are there of the room and bathroom so that you guys would be able to follow up for future DISers trying to find a place to stay. :)

Thank you all so much for your help!

Thank you! We cross posted!

This is great news!

They have made arrangements to accomodate 4 sleeping for their family, which will be good.
