Question for my Canon DSLR friends. I'm looking at three telephoto lens for my T2i.
first one is : EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II
second one is : EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM
third one is : EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom

Should I sacrifice the zoom distance of 50mm and go with the first that has Image Stabilization. Is the stabilization worth the extra price and giving up 50mm of zoom. Or should I go with the second one. And to compare the 2nd to the 3rd is it worth getting the USM and paying more for it?

I know most of these are just entry level telephoto and aren't the best but I have to start some where. I just wasn't sure if the IS, was more important. than zoom length.

Go with the 55-250. It's actually a pretty solid lens. Both versions of the 75-300 (USM and non-USM) are awful. USM doesn't do you any good if the optics are really low quality.

You won't miss the extra 50mm. Just shoot at your highest resolution and crop down. Go for the better optics of the 55-250. And yes, you'll love having the IS. Especially when you are zoomed out to 250.

I have to agree with the other 2 posters. The 55-250 IS is a very good lens for the price. It came as part of my kit with my T2i and served me well during the time i used it.

If i had not upgraded to the 70-200L IS f/4 i would still be using the 55--250

I don't shoot with Canon, but for my Sony, I love the Tamron 70-300 usd. Fantastic optics. Has the extra reach. The Canon version has VC, as well as the ultra silent motor. And very fairly priced.

The Tamron 70-300 with vibration control and USM is an awesome lens. Its really sharp and the stabilization is one of the best.

Another vote for the 55-250. I also have the 70-300 and the 55-250 is a much better lens!

another vote for the 55-250IS - it's often on sale (used) for around $100 or refurbished for $150
