I've seen teepees, but I don't think FW rents them to individuals. I think they are used by groups, like Scout troops, etc. I don't even know if FW owns them -- they may be brought in by the groups.

Since I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night (and inquiring minds want to know - including me )I just called the front desk at Fort Wilderness.

The CM searched & searched on her computer. Then comes back and says something about the Wilderness Lodge. I told her they're not at the Wilderness Lodge, they're at Fort Wilderness and that I thought maybe they were near the group camping area (and then politely asked to make sure I was talking to the FW front desk). She searched some more and then says "They're not for rent. They're for decoration". I said "But I don't think they're there all the time. And they're just for decoration?" She just said "Is that all? Have a magical evening."

I feel certain this will probably fall under Disney's Carousel of Policy (thanks Carol, still love that line!) ..... in case anyone else wants to try another CM on another day.

If these are the Tee Pees you are talking about they are privately owned. We talked to some of the people staying in them. Most of them had stickers on there trucks that said " have tee pee will travel ". They still had to pull trailers to hall them. So I will stay with my 5er.

I'm so with you! Those are cool, but I think the ones we saw were colorful and up on platforms? Who knew there were so many tee pee'ers out there? Wonder what the advantage is over a tent (if there is in fact a tee pee sub-culture out there somewhere ). Just curious.

Lone Star I notice from the dates on your pictures that you were there roughly
the same time as I was.

One of our Bus Drivers said that the Tee Pees belonged to/were being used by a Boy Scout get together that had been held over the Thanksgiving Holidays
for quite a few years, nearly 20 if I remember right.

I believe it was clkelly who posted about briefly speaking with one of the "TIPI" owners.....he was one of those "Well, since you asked, Im gonna tell you every little detail I have stored in my brain" type of fellows...so YES, there is a whole group of tipi nuts running around this country, talk about "old school camping"??!!??

LoneStar...I bet they DO indeed have to haul them things in trailers...very long trailers I would assume...some of the wooden poles look like they must be 30 ft long!!!

That's the group that comes during Thanksgiving weekend. Our 1st trip we saw them and it was amazing how they set up all their gear. If you're there TG Weekend stop by because they'll give you the lowdown.

Yeah they will. They where like come on in our tee pee, we where like thats ok then they where no come on in, Thats when I ran out of beer and really had to go.

We where there from 11/19/07 to 12/3/07 great trip. 200 loop

Yea, those teepees were up during Thanksgiving, and yes, it is a private group that travels around the US setting up those sites.

This was their annual "convention" this year, I think for years they did it in other places in Florida, but for the last couple years they've done it in the group camping spot at the Fort. I've never heard of being able to rent teepees at the Fort, and I don't think it will be something coming anytime soon (although it would be an interesting idea).
