How strict are they on being 13 to go to the teen clubs?
Do they ask for any type of certificates when you register your child. My son is almost 13 and his brother is 15, I would hate to separate them.

The counselors get a list of all the kids ages. If the kid is not withing a month of turning 13 they usually won't allow them in the teen club. The best thing to do is go talk to the counselors the first moment you can and see what they say.

They are totally strict. The rule is that a younger child within 30 days of the birthday may go into the higher age group with counsellor approval.

DCL obviously knows the date of birth for your children, since you have to provide that info to them when signing up for the cruise, and you either need to provide a certified copy of birth certificate or passport when checking in.

Friend of ours thought wed be able to"fudge" about 2 of the kids in our group, so they could go into the teen club with our 13yo DD (the other 2 kids had just turned 11 and 12 within a month before the cruise). Pointed out to her how that wouldn't be possible, since DCL knows the kids' exact birthdates, and obviously they communicate with their teen club counselors.

On our last cruise, there was some type of indication on the childrens' key that told the age category. I had an 11 year old sneaking into the 13 year old stuff and a 16 year old sneaking into the clubs. When my 16 yr old would come into the clubs (at least while we were in there), he'd stick by us so he wouldn't be carded. Both where chased out from where they didn't belong most nights but always sneaked in another door afterwards.

Granted, this was two years ago - so in February, my younger child is now 13 and won't have a problem doing what she wanted to do 2 years ago.

When I checked out the teen club last month it seemed really informal as far as coming and goings. Do you have to sign teens up for the teen clubs? Do they check kids in and out of the teen club like the do the other clubs? Is the teen club attached to the beeper system like the other clubs or are the kids free to come and go as they please without the parents being notified?

My kids weren't interested in doing the daytime activities. My 16 yo ds came and went without us ever going sign him up for anything. My 11 yo dd wasn't interested in the daytime activities - she only went into Studio Sea at night for her age appropriate activities and then again for the 13-17 activities. Both of them had a blast on the cruise because we allowed them to make their own schedules while on the ship.

The elevator to the stack requires a card swipe, and only teens KTTW cards are encoded for it. However, that doesn't stop anyone from using the stairs. The beeper system isn't used in the teen area, and the teens can come and go as they please. When they are outside of The Stack (like teen karoke in Studio Sea), it is easy for another kid to crash the party, and it is unlikely the counsellors will say anything. Technically, the teens do still have to register at the beginning of the cruise, but it seems a lot more lax up there than in the lab.
