Can someone give me info on the teen club? When we sailed in May my daughter, had JUST turned 13, went to the lab. I also have a 9yr old. They really seemed to enjoy this. We are booked for the May '06 dbl dip. By the time we sail, she will be 14. I'm just reluctant to send her off with 16-17 yr olds?

Am I just too overprotective?

The stack is set up in a way that there are some (1-2) activities per day that last about 1 hour for specific ages (13-14 & 15-17).

Some activities are together. But mostly the kids go to meet friends and hang out, and that is not always in the Stack.

DS was 13 the last time and he had a great time. He is looking forward to our cruise in 6-2006 because of the Stack.

I have heard that one of the older (15-17) games is a bit on the mature side. But the younger kids are not suppose to attend. But you know kids, some will attend that shouldn't.

I would tell her to use her best judgement if she is uncomfortable at an activity. Most of the activites are games.

If she will be 14, I assume she will be in high school and probably have been around the older kids.

Dh and I teach from gr. k-12. We see alot of kids. Generally kids will gravitate to those like themselves no matter what the age. For example, I was very worried about a freshman girl who is very "young". She clicked immediately with a senior who was also very "young". I'm using the term "young" because it sounds better. ;)

If she doesn't like the Stack, there of course is nothing wrong with family time. I'm sure she will want to spend sometime with her sister as well.

I have the same concerns. Actually my DD does as well. She just turned 13 and will be 14 before our 10 night So. Carib. She gets on the dcl website and looks up the teen activities but she still feels intimidated by the older kids. We did have some roudy teen boys on our first cruise and perhaps she's worried about being thrust in a room to fend for herself. Does anyone know if the area is staffed? DD is jealous that DS will be able to attend the club. I've assured her that Disney will NOT let her down and that there will be plenty of activities for her to enjoy even if we just do family things.

The teen area does have a good size group of counselors.
You can meet them the first day and ask any questions you'd like and you child can take a tour of the Stack. These counselors are trained to handle the social problems that can arise with teens. One thing that helps the younger teens (our GD is 13) is to get to know other teens on the dis board before the cruise. Then arrange a time and place for them to meet the first day, just like the adults do. Just ask on your cruise thread for any young teens and you'll get them connected right away. Then they will have someone to hang with that is the right age.
But the counselors do keep an eye on things and if some guys get routy, they will be asked to leave. If it happens a 2nd time they will not be able to return to the club! They do enforce this rule in all the clubs and it is strictly adhered to.
I'm sure once you and your kids meet the counselors you feel much more at ease. It truly is a great place for teens of all ages.
Have a magical time!

My DD, 14 spent a lot of time at the stack on our California cruise in August. She made many friends, some she still keeps in touch with. She said it was her best vacation ever.... :sunny:

Thanks everyone for the reassuring information on the stack. I never once thought that Disney would provide an unsafe or unfit place for DD... but I guess it's a mother's job to worry. She should know some of the kids from our cruise meet post before we sail so all should be good. :goodvibes I know that on our first cruise she said "but I don't know any of the kids" I had to chuckle and said... "Neither do they!"

Yippee,

Are you on the May 27, 2006 double scoop. We are too. My son will be almost 16 when we sail and my daughter will be just shy of 12. We are all looking forward to this cruise. Go over to the cruise meets thread and we are quite a large group on this sailing

My daughter will be turning 13 on the May 25, 2006 cruise on Wonder. Would love to have her chat with other teens before we go. How and where do they hook up?

THere is a thread on the top of this page..Cruise meets..If there is none for your date, then you could always start one...It could be for everyone, and then find out the children on your cruise, or there are even some simply for teenagers and such.. :goodvibes

When we sail 4/1/06 we'll have an almost 15 and 13 year old DDs along. It all depends on the girls. Our oldest is very strong and would not be bothered by others. Our still will be 12 year old is not as strong. She plans to do the 10-12 things and hope that there are a lot (some) 12++ girls to bond with.

We'll have an 8 year old with thet 8-9s and a 6 year old with the 5-7s. We'll be spread all over.

30 weeks until we sail!!!
