We are going to DW in September for a week; I want to rent a "scooter" to help me get around. I am mobile, but have knee problems that will simply not permit me to walk or stand that much.

What do I do with the scooter when I'm ready to go on a ride? If I take the key with me, does that mean nobody can steal it? Is there a place to put it at each ride?

Where do I charge it at night?

And please, how do I use the FAQ for this list? All I get is a search mechanism, which will only help me if I know what I want, and there are lots of things I don't even know I want to know about yet!

Thanks --

Hi and :welcome: to disABILTIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. The top item is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including where people rent ECVs.

There is sufficient space in all rooms, including the values, to bring an ECV inside which is where it should live (and be charged) during the night. Also the doors for all rooms are 36 inches wide while most ECVs are only about 24 inches wide.

For all attractions a CM will tell you where to park. Almost all the lines at WDW are "mainstreamed" so you can take the ECV all the way to the boardibng area or into the theater. If you run into one of the few which are not, a CM will direct you.

And yes, normally when you park you should remove the key and take it with you. The only exception should be if a CM at the boarding area specifically asks you to leave the key.

And for additional information, don't worry so much about "search" but just look at the titles of the threads in the forum.

Thanks so much for the information. It's exactly what I needed to feel more comfortable about doing what I actually have to do :).

I have my key on a coil-type keychain bracelet and just slip it on my wrist when I turn the scooter off. You can find them at wlamart, the dollar stores, etc.:)

Thanks for the tip! We don't have them here, but we'll be in Gainesville before DW so I will try to find one.

Another question -- where does one put the scooter when going into a restaurant? I don't need it inside; is there a safe place to keep them outside?

Thanks!

you can just park it in an out of the way place outside the restaurant. If it is a full service restaurant where you have to check in and then wait for seating, the CM at the check in desk can direct you where to park it.

Another possibility is to take it in to the restaurant with you and find a place inside where you can park it out of the path of traffic. In the counter service restaurants, just find a place that looks out of the way to you. In the full service restaurants, just ask your server.

I'm sorry to be a bother, but I can't get to any index in the FAQ. I only get to the search engine, and when I type in ECV, I don't even get a match, so I figure I'm doing something basically incorrect.

Any way you can help me out?

Thanks -- this is, I think, the last bit I have to plan for our visit, and I'd like to get it organized :).

You are clicking on a FAQs tab that is for the whole site.
You want to look at the top threads in the list of threads. The disABILITIES FAQs thread has a little green arrow next to it.

Piper put a direct link to it in the post beffore this one, but if you get lost, just look for the green arrow.
