Team Tori MAW Trip to WDW!!! PTR (July dates)

Hi everyone,
I've been reading all weekend and wanted to start my PTR here. My name is Michelle and my daughter Tori is going on a Make a Wish trip to Disney World. She is six years old.

We are waiting for confirmation of dates, but it looks like we will be going July 21st to July 27th. We will be staying at Give Kids the World.

I've been to WDW once, when I was a senior in H.S. I don't remember much about it. The trip will be for me, my husband, Tori (6) and Jon (8).

Tori has a genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis. Both her and Jon were adopted from foster care and Tori's biological mother passed the disorder to her. Jon does not have it. The disorder causes tumors to grow on the nerves of the body. Tori had three tumors, one in her brain, and one on each of her optic nerves. She had surgery in February to remove one brain tumor. She is currently undergoing 15 months of chemotherapy.

She is the happiest little girl I've ever met and she is so brave and strong. Her wish is to be a REAL princess at Disney World and to meet Rapunzel (who she calls Tangled) and to meet Woody Woodpecker (I'm guessing you can meet him at Universal?)

I've learned so much from reading here and I'm going to keep reading and learning. Please feel free to ask any questions or give me any advice! I look forward to learning from you. Got the rest of our paperwork sent in to Make a Wish. Waiting to get a confirmation.

I've been looking at the custom disney outfits..they are so cute!! I need to figure out how to make some or where to buy them! I can sew but I really need a pattern in order to feel comfortable.

We are new to Disney so I'm not even sure where is the best place to begin and how much to plan. I also need to figure out which rides my kids will be able to go on. Tori is six but she is very tiny.

Her birthday is on Friday so I think I want to find something Disney to give her, maybe a new swimsuit?

I feel a little overwhelmed and not sure where to start on the planning or how much planning I actually want to do!

Or what is the MUST SEEs. Anyway, feel free to chime in!

Oh good! She found a bunch of Woody Woodpecker cartons on Netflix and has become obsessed with him!

Yes, we will be staying at GKTW. I'm excited! I've read so many good stories. Right now I feel a little overwhelmed with trying to figure everything out!

I love this. The other day I asked my baby sister who her favorite disney princess was. she replied "tangled". I said "so you like Rupunzel?" she said "No! tangled!"
It's so cute to see she's not the only one.

Your kids are such GREAT ages!!!!! We went along on my nephew Daniel's MAW trip to enjoy it with him and help out. They stayed at GKTW and just loved it - we got to visit it a few times when they stayed there and it was awesome!!! What do you think your kids will like the best????

Thank you!!! I'm not sure what they will like! We are getting the Disney DVD so they can get some ideas of what is there. I think they will just be thrilled with the whole thing. They've never even been to an amusement park!

You mentioned you have a netflix account. Right now they have the Disney World "behind the scenes viedos on there. They show all the rides and characters and what they are all about. After showing my BB that he's become obbessed with riding toy story midway mania.

I have really been slacking on the planning!

So to update, we have confirmed dates of July 21st to July 27th, so we fly on out Saturday and come back on Friday.

We are bringing our son Dominic with us as well. Make a Wish will not pay for him, but we are going to pay for him because we don't want to leave him out!! It is going to be a little tight financially but hopefully it won't be too big of a deal.

Our plan is to go to two days of WDW, two days of Universal, and one day at Sea World, and then spend the rest at GKTW. I think trying to cram in another park visit on the day we arrive or leave is going to be too much on Tori. It is going to be HOT when we are there and she gets tired or in pain pretty easily.

I went on the Disney site and planned out the rides we can go to. I'm still debating on some of the "special" things like the special meals because they are so much money. I hate that money is dictating these things, but I was out of work for 12 weeks, and am only working 4 days a week if I'm lucky. The past two weeks I've only been able to work 3 days a week because Tori has ended up in the ER.

If there was one meal thing to NOT miss, what would it be? Opinions please!!
