I went to DD's open house at school the other night. Her 11th grade English class is called "Media Literacy" (sheesh I just WISH they'd teach them toread and write properly  oops...digressing)
Anyway...a 10 minute blurb and explanation of the syllabus and all....they're going to be analyzing and criticizing the media...print, film, TV etc, dissecting its influence on society blah blah blah..........I was getting bored (poor DD if I was bored 3 minutes in to the explanation) but woke up when the list of readings was beings summarized.....something called "Team Rodent"....a book on big bad Disney's power and influence on society through control of the entertainment industry........
Has anyone heard of or read this??? I'm going to be curious to look at it when DD reads it...........

Hmmm... I hope they also study the author's power and influence on the reader's perception of the subject...

NOT that I've read it

Yes I've heard of it & while there are a few valid points, however I'd be wary of that being the only side of the story, just as I would with "The Disney Version" or "Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince".

Ann, I did read it and found it quite interesting...does not present Disney very well...I think it was written by a newspaper columnist, at any rate...Disney does not sound very magical when you do read it.. :)

I read it for a class in college, and as a Disney lover, I was not looking forward to it. I didn't want to see disney trashed up and down the pages. However, it addresses the company and Eisner more than say the park itself, and to be honest, my view through the whole thing was that it was a satire (it's not, but I found it a whole lot funnier b/c I knew lots of the stuff wasn't true or skewed)
It talks about Times Square and the record company side of Disney mostly. Have your daughter read it to see the humor in what people obsess their lives with. I mean this guy wrote a whole book on how Disney (the company) is a large corperation (well, duh) who is concerned only with its image (and that's a bad thing beacause?)

Very interesting Ann. I can not wait to hear more when your DD starts to read it.

You ought to ask for an alternate assignment on the grounds that it goes against your religion. :teeth:

I'm not the biggest Eisner fan by any stretch (& I think he needs to be fired like yesterday!), but my understanding of Team Rodent is that the view is mostly anti-anything Disney, including before the Eisner regime.
