Team Hakuna Matata; Masters of the Holidays!

Hi everyone.

It's been a bit hectic here at home, and I've been lazy. I had Bee on Weds night, and massage Thursday night. Last night we were called to Mark's moms as his dad was hospitalized with what we thought was a stroke. It turns out the heart was giving out and he had an infection. He died peacefully in his sleep this morning at 7am. We - especially Miranda are thankful that he was able to attend her wedding 3 weeks ago. He had a hard time walking and he did have Alzheimer's but he knew who she was and Matt and pretty much the whole family. I'm thankful too that he didn't get so bad with the loss of memory because it could have gone on for years, I've seen others much worse than him. His heart just wasn't strong enough and the hospital respected the wishes of the family and didn't put him on life support. Being a catholic hospital it's not always the case.

So tonight, take a moment to think of Bob, he's in heaven, breathing deeply, playing golf, drinking a Manhattan on the 19th hole and then driving off in the Cadillac of his dreams. He loved to travel and loved going to WDW with us the 2x we took them. My mother in law doesn't like to travel but would go to Disney so long as she could feed the ducks. It was her favorite part of the Boardwalk and actually the whole trip. He wanted to move to Florida but she wouldn't leave her kids. I guess it was enough that she moved from New Caledonia at the end of WWII to come to New Hampshire with her husband. Yes she was a war bride. From Paradise in the South Pacific to here.

Miranda and I will make OUR hearts stronger tomorrow morning, we will start walking again. I want to make sure my jeans still look good come WDW in 2 weeks. Take care all,

denise

Hi everyone! It's a cool and rainy day here. The rain is too heavy for running so I'm glad that I ran last night instead. I used today as my rest day instead. I'm hoping things dry up a little so I can go out tomorrow - I plan to run 8 miles and am hoping the sidewalks and roads won't be icy.

Denise - Sorry to hear about Mark's dad  I'll keep him and your family in my thoughts this weekend.

Scott - Don't worry, the Wii is really easy to set up. I set mine up after asking DF to do it for a couple of weeks.

Margie - For me, the hardest part of exercising in cold weather is just getting out there. I'm usually fine once I do :) Have fun at the birthday party!

Lynn - Snow?! Actually I think we're suppose to get some next week... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it melts as soon as it hits the ground.

Dave - That's a really long shift!

Connie - I hope we get to keep the teams too!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Oh Yuck, it's turned into winter here, BRRRRR. We are 30 degrees with wind and a sky that looks like the movie the Perfect Storm. It is a wonderful day for snuggling.

We are resting today since I have to work and Erica is just coming off her three 12 hour shifts and will be tired to her bones. Tomorrow we will be back at the treadmill and the weights. This is an unusual buildup for walking a marathon, we shall see how it works out.

How is everyone elses training going?

Denise, is Miranda doing the half with you?

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Denise! Much love and strength to you and your family. I will be praying for peace for each of you.

Dave, I really enjoyed Kung Fu Panda. I ironed shirts and watched the movie. I think that constitutes a workout, but I'm not sure! LOL

Margie! sounds like a good and productive day.

I bought tickets yesterday to see Rodney Carrington live on Dec. 26th. He lives in Tulsa and always plays this Indian Casino in Shawnee while home. It should be a wild and fun evening!

Y'all make a great day. I am off to do a couple miles.

Denise, is Miranda doing the half with you?

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Yes, Miranda, Nicholas, and Hope are doing the 1/2. My co-workers DD and Son will also be doing it. Mark is on strict orders to be at the MK with water, pills and food should we need it. Then he'll meet us at the end. We were discussing it this morning during our walk. Miranda will jog and I will continue with my walking program. I do quite well on my own as I do it at my own pace. Mark and Miranda did it together last year but we'll all be on our own trying for our own personal goals.

Mine - don't fall down, under 3 hours.

Nick & Hope - finish and do better than last year.

The other 2 people - Tracy and Scott - brother and sister will be competing against each other. Tracy is in the picture in my signature she is standing behind me in the picture with dark hair, this will be her brothers first 1/2. That family will be attending the dessert party with us. Their mom Betty and I have been friends over 30 years. They are all Disney freaks........fans...:rolleyes1

Well off to the showers, did 5 this morning. Dave I think it's warmer here than in KY. Although our Canadian friends are sending down some cooler air today.

Have a good one all

First off...Denise, so sorry to hear of your loss. I will keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers.

Yesterday it was cold and rainy...then it turned to SNOW! Normally I love it when it snows, I get all bundled up under blanks with a good book. But this year I am dreading it. I am such a freeze baby...it will honestly be a miracle if I don't renew the gym membership before next month to train on the track as opposed to outside. I'm trying to be tough, but I HATE being cold! :cold:

Dave - I like your thought about the "cuddle weather". Can't I just skip the marathon and stay in the warmth with my sweetie?

Vivky - Have you ever trained through winter? I don't know what I'm going to do when it gets icy here.

Connie - I don't want the team to end! I know I've been absent from posts lately...but after training and the wedding I will be wanting to chat!!

I did a 5 miler in 42 minutes. It was windy and that made it tough. You can tell the weather is getting cold up here.

Not as cold as Scott's however!

Jennifer

:wave2: TEAM!

Denise & Mark - so sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. :grouphug:

Another gray day in Kazoo area – we had snow this morning, still signs of it but no measurable amount. Winter Training has begun. I like it, except for the ice and then I wear the treads on my shoes. I dress in layers, wear a wicking skull cap as my head sweats and I come home with frozen hair.

Did a Rest Day today – just because I needed it - feel tired inside. :headache:

Vicky - Me too, I probably would have pushed myself for a walk today if I did not have to go alone. :guilty:

Plan to bike at the gym in the morning. I hope to get a walk in with Hagen, but it depends on conditions as the forecast a high of 35 degrees and snow.

Connie, No Kidding - we watched Kung Fu Panda last night. Several Lessons some I might not have gotten correctly but food sure seemed to be an incentive for the Panda! Oh, I did not iron any shirts-yikes, that had to be tough on your shoulder!

Eva we can't all be ice princesses like Margie. I get chilled lower than 50 degrees and must wear gloves, long sleeves and running pants. Below 40 degrees I never warm up.

It's my friday, YEAH!!! We are off for two days, time for some training and world class snuggling.

Have a restful evening y'all.

:wave2: TEAM -Connie, Dave & Erica, Denise & Mark, Scott & Lynn, Diane, Eva, Jennifer, Jen, Kathy, Kim & Mike, Sue, and Vicky! :grouphug:

Connie - :flower3: I know a Speedy Recovery would be nice, but do remember to go slow.

Hummmmm it's beautiful here this morning, about 2-inches of snow this morning, and a little doe playing in my yard - :upsidedow

Hagen arrived early so no gym this morning. I got one of those warming seats that you heat up in the microwave to use in his stroller, so I plan to take him out for at least a short walk after lunch. :goodvibes

Dave- Enjoy

Holy Cow, you would not make it in NH. I actually bought a warm hat for training this year and Miranda was shocked, "When in the heck are you going to wear that!?" Well I might wear it but it does have straps that I can tie and push down the hat so it just hangs when I overheat.

And after the 1/2 I plan on getting showshoes and poles so I'll need a hat for that too. It will be different training but at least exercise and I'll be outdoors. Mark is on the fence since he's like Dave - cold and never warms up. If you guys had a bit more fat on you, it would help insulate. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :cutie:

Yes darlin but a little extra fluff on a princess just softens the curves where with us guys it makes us look like a walrus.

Good Morning Team!

Denise and Mark - Condolences from Scott and me, you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Dave - Can't say that my training has been going well, I seem to not be getting out to walk, I skipped the long walk of 18 miles 2 weeks ago, and have not even gotten in the normal 6 mile walks that I usually do several times a week! Today or tomorrow I will get out for a long walk, try for at least 16 miles! I have decided that I will have to combine loops that I do from our house, that is the only way I will have access to a bathroom!

I will set up the Wii Fit today, we never got to that part over the weekend, I am curious about their programs. It looks like it would be fun. I promised Lisa (Princessrunner) that I would do Pilates and her leg routine today, so I will HAVE to get those in! Maybe if I am going to do my long walk tomorrow, I will take today off from walking - my knees really hurt yesterday.

Weather was really nice over the weekend, and it is getting warmer - high today is supposed to be 61 degrees and 67 degrees tomorrow, should be clear, and I hope the wind is still calm. I expect the last of the snow drifts to be gone by the end of the day. This good weather should be making its way eastward for all you folks in cold weather right now!

Connie - I too, will really miss the team, I would hate to think of how little walking I would have done if I did not feel responsible to the team for miles and hours!!!

Denise - have fun snowshoeing, it is alot of work!!!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning team! It was a chilly weekend up here, we even had some snow but it didn't stick. As for me, I did a quick 3.5 miles on Friday and used Saturday as my day off. I didn't make it out for my 8 miler on Sunday because I had a really bad sinus headache. I took a couple of Tylenol but couldn't shake it. I'm not sure if it will impact my training schedule much. My next LR is two weeks from now (I changed that from a 9 miler to an 8) since I have a 10K race next week.

Lynn - My favourite Wii Fit games are the soccer and the boxing. I never really got into the stretches as much because it doesn't let you do a circuit of them. You have to go in and select each exercise as you want to do them.

Eva - This will be my first time running in the cold. I'm most worried about slipping on ice. As for the clothing - I have a bunch of long sleeved tech shirts and running tights. I think I have to get some longer socks because I only have ankle length.

Denise - Snowshoeing sounds fun!

Dave - I love your idea of winter and snuggling!! It doesn't make the cold seem so bad :)

Connie - How did your walk go yesterday?

That's all for now! Take care everyone!

Good afternoon, everyone.

Denise, Very sorry to hear about your loss. My thoughts are with you during this time.

Very rainy Sat. Had to switch up the weekend runs with a short treadmill run Sat. and a cold & very windy long run on Sun. The wind was so strong a few times I had to walk until I changed direction. It was like running in place.

Vicky, I live in a fairly quiet neighborhood & can run on the road. Even with all the snow we had last year I did only a couple runs on the treadmill. Listened to the weather forecast about Thurs. to decide on a Sat or Sunday long run. The other day would be a short pre or post long run. I still wear ankle socks even in the winter. The only issue i've had on really cold days is the water/ gatorade in the fuel belt freezing. Haven't personally tried them but anybody I know that have Yaktraks (sp?) swear by them.

Many outings, chores & misc. things to complete over the next few weeks. Besides training. My main goal is to wrap Christmas presents as I buy. Not leaving this to the last minute. I'm off to a good start. I wrapped 5 on the weekend.

Happy Training Team. I'm up for pilates tonight. Possible snow later this week. I'll might need to rethink this week's runs.....Sue

hi everyone,

i did 3 miles in 25:30 (8:30 pace) today.

but i got great news! i got my job! so this time next year i'll be teaching elementary school!

best,
jennifer

HI TEAM!

:cheer2: :cheer2: Congratulations, Jennifer! :teacher:

Just got home from the gym - did my upper body weights workout & 11 miles on the bike. It is not too cold - 28 degrees. The snow flurries has turned the roads icy...top speed is not safe even under 20 MPH!

Good morning everyone! I had my weekly training session yesterday. I had a second PT tag along with us. I think she has to job shadow for a bit before she can get her own clients. I'm glad my clinic is getting more physios, right now they only have one at each location and they're always booked.

I've got all my winter running gear ready to go. I think it is going to below 0C tonight so I'll have to bundle up. I'm hoping to get in 3-4 miles.

Sue - Saturday was pretty horrible. The rain really stung because of the wind. I usually try to do my LR on Saturday in case something happens on Sunday. I never thought of the Gatorade freezing! I haven't taken my Fuel Belt out since the summer - I usually have warmish Gatorade!

Jennifer - Congratulations!! Do you know which grade you'll be teaching? Do you have a preference?

Margie - Yikes! Stay safe (and warm)!

Take care everyone!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICKEY!!!!!!

Did a 4 miler this morn, 10:30 ish pace.

Worked till midnight last night, drive home today, then a 400 mile round trip tomorrow.

LYNN!!!! have a good long walk, and don't forget Wall-E Thanks, see ya tonight.

Gotta Run.

I did the much dreaded treadmill this morning 3 miles. My body was missing the exercise and the mind was guilty so I hauled my butt out of bed at 5:05 am and did 3 miles in 45 min. I felt better, I may be snoozing later this afternoon at my desk but if Miranda and I don’t make it out after dark tonight, then at least I’ve done SOMETHING.

I haven’t caught up on posts but will do so at some point. Thanks for all your prayers, I’m sure tomorrow will be tough on the family but in my heart I know it was for the best.

Thank you,

denise

P.S. Jennifer - Way to go!!
