I have an "interview" (they call it a meeting) at a small private school tomorrow to teach history. When I finished my masters last year, we were given some typical interview questions, but it was six months ago. Does any one here have some ideas of types of questions they were asked (or ask if you interview perspective teachers)?

I already have a laundry list of question to ask them, but it would be helpful if I could prepare for the other side:)

Usually you get "what is your philosophy of education/why do you want to teach."

Some other fairly common ones:

-- Describe your classroom
-- Why do you want to work with this age group
-- Why history (or whatever your specialty is)?
-- What clubs or sports are you qualified to coach/sponsor
-- What unique characteristics/qualities would you bring to the school

Most of the interviews I've had have been pretty conversational but sometimes you'll get the stuffy administrators who ask only the boring stuff. ;)

Here is a list of questions that was given to me before my first interview:

Why did you apply here? What do you know about ___ ISD?
Tell me about your prior experiences in teaching or working with children.
What is your most important reason for teaching?
What is your philosophy of education/teaching?
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Define the role of the principal.
How do you handle discipline in your classroom?
Do you want students to like you?
Describe in detail a lesson that you have taught.
How would you describe yourself?
How do you determine or evaluate success?
Do you consider yourself a creative person?
How do you feel about inclusion?
What professional mistake have you made, and how was it resolved?
What are some rewards you expect from your teaching career?
What do you think it takes to be a successful classroom teacher?
What kind of classroom environment will you set up?
How do you work under pressure?
Do you have a preference as to what grade/subject/population you would like to teach?
Why do you feel you are a strong candidate for this job?

Good luck!
