I would like to know if anyone has been to the tea party and if so was it any good. Which characters have you seen at the tea party and how was the food. This question is academic as I have already booked it but as this will be my first visit to DLP I am after as much info as possible. We will be there in May and I am very very excited. I just can't wait.

Hi there Jerseyboy :) :) :) ! Welcome to the DIS! I'll have a look to see if I can find any previous posts on this - this board is fairly new and I am pretty certain there was mention of the tea party on the UK section.

Looking forward to seeing more of your posts :) !

we went to the tea party in Nov 2001. it was at the Saloon, but I think it has changed venue now, so it's probably different.

We had a buffet set out with lots of cakes and desserts on it, I don't remember anythign savoury. You were also allowed 2 drinks, and for some reason I think one had to be a hot drink and one a cold drink. I remember thinking it was a strange rule.

The Saloon was set out around a stage on tiers, and the characters came out from the stage and went to meet the kids. We were sitting right at the top tier, away from the stage, and as the characters got mobbed as soon as they came out, not many made it all the way back to us. Eventually we realised and took Katie down to meet them, but it was pretty crowded and not as civilised as a Florida character meal where they come around to your table. We found this at all the character meals we did.

Some of the characters also went on the stage and did a bit of larking around, I seem to remember Chip (or was it Dale) throwing himself across the stage and sliding on his tummy. It wasn't an actual show, just the characters being silly, but it was quite funny.
We hada good time, and it's not very expensive, but it wasn't marvellously well organised.

Thank you for posting Bev - I couldn't find the earlier threads on this.

It is certainly true that when it comes to characters, there is little organisation. I think there is only one really orderly meet and greet in DLP - at the end of Main Street near the hub.

I am sure you'll have a great time at the Tea Party but it is something to be aware of before you go - I found knowing that meeting characters was a bit of a 'free for all', we weren't too bothered as we didn't expect any different.

Yikes!! Then there are no lines or escorts to control the mob of kids & parents at these character meals? That is sad to hear because why pay more for a modest meal if you don't get quality time with the Disney characters. I loved the Liberty Tavern at Magic Kingdom WDW because the characters dressed in colonial costumes and they come to your tables frequently to take photos, sign autographs, and do goofy things. The food was decent and there is no mob and no lines. There is an understanding that you wait at your table for the characters to come to you. It works very well.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the info everyone. As I say never having been to any Disney resort I am a complete novice at all this. I will make sure that I keep a good eye on my 5 year old daughter so she can meet the characters. I think for the money the tea party costs it seems good value especially compared to the £94-00 we paid for three of us at Buffalo Bills Show. We decided that it may be a long time before we visit DLP again so we may as well splash out and enjoy as much of it as we can. Thanks again for the info and if you have any other stuff to add I would be very interested.
