TDR - Restaurant shows - reviews, booking experiences, etc?

Hi all,

Has anyone recently gone to any of the following restaurant shows:

- Duffy and Friend's Wonderful Friendship (Cape Code - TDS);
- Mickey's Rainbow Luau (Polynesian Terrace - TDL); or
- The Diamond Variety Muster (Diamond Horseshoe - TDL)?

If so, did you enjoy it and find it represented good value for money? And how was the booking experience?

They're all relatively "new" shows post-COVID, so I'm guessing they're still very popular with locals?

Post-pandemic, I've only seen Duffy and Friend's Wonderful Friendship but some of my friends have watched the other 2 this year.

The show restaurants are more difficult to book than Magellan's but easier to book than the Fantasy Springs hotel. S seats are the hardest to book so I've only ever managed to book A and B seats. If you fail to get an advance reservation when they drop, same day reservations are a bit less competitive for the Diamond Horseshoe but you still want to be refreshing the page when they drop.

If you ever watched the Cape Cod Cook-off shows before the pandemic, the current show is a bit better due to having more characters together on stage at once. But I don't really consider it good value for money because you still just get the sandwich or burger set.

From what I've seen, the food and shows at the two restaurants in Disneyland are better. I expect to prefer Mickey's Rainbow Luau but won't know for sure until I have a chance to try the restaurants later this year.

We watched the Diamond Horseshoe one in June. It was very cute, the food was decent. We wouldn't call it value for money, but we really enjoyed it.

We were able to get it by being online ready to book the moment the pre-booking window opened. But only for the lowest category.

There is a process that you need to go to the will call window more than 45 minutes before the show. There you get a ticket that has your assigned table in it. Once doors open you will be escorted to that table.

Our daughter loves the shows, so we're considering these. Although, like a lot of TDR, it sounds like booking the tickets will be the real challenge!

I think the Diamond Horseshoe was ok to book if you were on time and a bit flexible. One of our days at Disney Sea days it was still available at 9 am Japanese time when I tried for some dining reservations. The shows open at 8 am for reservations.

I think Duffy would be our priority, BUT all the unknowns with Fantasy Springs makes me reluctant to book and pay for tickets to the Duffy show when we may not be able to attend depending upon what, if any, Premier Access or Standby Passes we get to Fantasy Springs.

We just did the Luau restaurant this week and for me being GF it was one of the stand out restaurants that accommodated my allergy the best and it wasn’t a kids meal. I thought the show was cute and the meal decent, it was like a Salisbury steak with gravy. I booked it right when the one month window opened, while on a Disney cruise of all places with not great WiFi and was able to get section A. I would definitely do it again next time we go. The show features Mickey, mini, chip & dale and the girl chipmunk Clarise.

I managed to get a very late lunch / early dinner booking for the Diamond Horseshow!

Can you please expand on the "call window" requirements? Can just one person from the booking attend? Do they have to wait around for 45 minutes or can they just grab the "ticket" and go?

There should be some info about this in your confirmation. Between park opening and at the latest 45 minutes before the show, you go to the will call window. We showed them the reservation in the app and then they gave us one ticket which showed the number of guests and our table number. I don’t see why everyone would have to go. Doesn’t need to be at 45 minutes, that’s just the cut off. I think we picked it up 2.5 hours before our show when we were in the area.

Ah. My bad. I misread the email as "please go to the restaurant ... 45 minutes before the designated time you have booked in advance".
