Interesting… I used to receive tDCS therapeutically for depression and whilst it worked quite well, it was a nightmare to use (sticker electrodes onto the scalp and leave it on all night, strapped to your waist) - now it's commercially available and looks far easier to do - https://www.flowneuroscience.com/
For the record, tCDS is where a small electrical current is passed from one temple to the other, in bursts. When I had it, it hurt to start with but after 30 minutes or so it became perfectly tolerable. Electroshock (or ECT as it should be known) is now quite civilised - a current is passed through the brain on subjects who have been sedated and paralysed, inducing seizures, which are the therapeutic part of the process. It has problems like memory loss, but otherwise, you never know it's happening to you.
