TCM to change the Great Movie Ride

YAAASSSSS. Thank goodness. I'm so glad they are giving some much needed love, rather than tearing it down.

I was just about to post this! Thanks for sharing :D

I'm super glad too! I've always been a fan of the ride but it has been needing an upgrade for quite some time. They say early spring 2015 so I'm hoping some of these improvements will be in place by the time my April 2015 trip rolls around!

If by spring summer, will they really do that much at all? Other than put TCM on the signs and such and maybe update the flim clips?

The article mentions the majority of changes to be made in the pre-show area and finale. It doesn't mention anything about major structural changes, but we will see when the official Disney announcement comes out what all will be included in the overhaul.

Glad I was able to ride it last month before the change. Was thinking as good as it is it could use some updating. Can't wait to see what they do.

The part I feel certain about is that a 5 year sponsorship arrangement will assure the ride and the building are here through at least 2019.

I do hope the ride scenes get some love, though.

I'm not saying that this will happen, but it's not like the GMR would take 3 years to be completely redone. Unlike a ride that has a very complex ride system that would need to be designed and built, the GMR is basically comprised of movie sets. The individual sets would be designed/produced off-site, and could potentially already be in the works. Again, I'm not saying that's the case. I'm just saying that it is definitely feasible to see major changes in this ride for 2015. I'm doubtful that we will see a whole new GMR, but I wouldn't mind seeing a nice mix of existing movies coupled with some really cool new ones.

It WOULD be nice if they updated a few scenes.

I am not a fan of this ride. I never cared for it from the first time I rode it. I would wish for a complete overhaul, but that seems very unlikely.

I'm not a huge fan of it but it represents what the original intent of DHS was. The golden age of movies the classics that's what this ride represents. I just wish they'd update some of the scenes with new animatronics or technology and maybe add a new movie or two.

Would like to see the Alien part go away and replaced with something from Star Wars.

I'm excited about the Disney/TCM partner ship. The changes sound small but maybe more will be added.

Good news...

I've always liked that ride...it's good nostalgia like some other Disney rides of old.

But...they have milked the cow until she broke down...
As is becoming painfully obvious after the last 20 years of relative neglect to existing rides.

Any refresh here is good in my book

First things first: replace the grainy, well-worn trailers with digitally restored versions! And then do the same with the concluding film clips, which would benefit with the inclusion of a few more recently-produced motion picture excerpts.

At times, despite the big blast of multi-speaker sound, the GMR's conclusion recalls the drive-in movie experience of years ago [but without the quality of the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater.]

All the best. :thumbsup2

This had me excited for a minute.

Then I saw the part where most of the changes take place pre-show and finale.

So they update the queue and change the movie at the end? Lame.

Don't get me wrong, I love the ride.

My problem is that I know most of the movies in it because of my parents nostalgia, not my own. I'm 24. My daughter will not be able to relate to many of these films at all. She likely won't even know or care who Clint Eastwood or John Wayne is. Some of the scenes need to go and be replaced.

The problem with this attraction, in my opinion, is the biggest problem with Disney as a whole right now. Nostalgia is the enemy of progress. Tomorrowland in MK looks more like "what we thought tomorrow would be like yesterday." Future World in Epcot is lacking, to say the very least. The Great Movie Ride should be called "The Old Classics Movie Ride". No "great" movies were made in the last two decades?! How about an update? What new, relevant filming related attractions are even at Disney's Hollywood Studios? A temporary cheap Frozen makeover? Indiana Jones is not relevant anymore, regardless of the latest film. Nothing is filmed at the park anymore. Star Tours is literally the only thing I can think of that is relevant to modern filming. So, I say again, what is this....Disney's Flashback Hollywood Studios, or just DHS? DHS should be an always changing park with new franchises and new filming attractions coming in. EPCOT should be a world always changing, showcasing new technology. Leave the nostalgia to MK. Does anyone honestly think Walt would be happy with DHS and EPCOT right now?

So, a little offtrack, but relevant still.

Since TCM will now have Disney specials, it would be wonderful for TGMR to include more classic Disney cartoons and movies. A nice break from all the Pixar stuff.

Change #1 - Stop using female cast members to play the part of the "Gangster" that takes over the ride in mobster scene. It's just silly.

Okay, I will sit back and wait to be attacked for my sexist remarks. Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Bonnie Parker, Stephanie St. Clair, Opal Long, Helen Gillis, Ma Barker, Pearl Elliott, Marie Barker, Virginia Hill, Arlyne Brickman, Evelyn Frechette...and those are just classic 1930s gangsters, not even including mobsters from other countries or more current mob bosses. You're not sexist, just ill-informed and that's all I've got to say. Lol.

My cousin works for Disney and he believes there will be some structural changes that take place but the first thing to change will be the preshow and finale. We shall see though, either way the ride needs some loving and I think TCM is the perfect partner to make this happen.
