Has anybody ever done this? Was planning on getting a family suite at one of the hotels with a complimentary shuttle, as opposed to the places near the entrance. We usually stay at the Fairfield, but we're looking for a little luxury this trip. But after looking at some of the rates folks have been getting rooms for through Priceline, I'm thinking about gambling on just getting two rooms through bidding.

So the real question is if we don't get a car and end up winning a bid for a hotel with no shuttle and off the ART route, what do you think about using cabs to come and go. Of course that would include a round trip back during the afternoon. We'll be 2 adults, a 2, 5, and 10-year old. My gut is that it would be a nightmare logistically, but maybe not....

ThX in advance.

I think I'd go with your gut! For something like this, stick with the sure bet and the complimentary shuttle. All the cab fare and tips will add up over the length of your stay, plus since you have so many in your party, you won't fit in a regular cab and would have to wait for a larger van, then there is the whole car seat thing, yadda yadda... stick with a shuttle!

Rather than being a nightmare, taxis seem very convenient to me if you must have transportation. The only issue is cost. Will you save enough on taxis to offset the lower hotel rate?

To me personally I like the "no hassle" aspects of walking distance hotels and will pay more for that. But if you want a nicer hotel with a lower rate the taxi approach may work for you.

I agree with Trey! I've never done it, but taxis to/from Disney could make sense.

I figure it this way. If you're within a mile or two, the taxi should be around $5-$7. Figure 4 trips per day may be $30 or so. I could easily see you saving much more than this with a strategic priceline bid, and end up with a luxurious room to boot!. Thanks for the great idea for our next trip!

The likelihood of you winning a bid of a hotel off the ART route in Anaheim would be pretty slim. Those buses seem to hit all of the hotels even remotely close, and even some of them I would consider really far away.

Your two year old and five year old will need carseats--so I'm not a fan of the taxi idea.

they have minivan taxis...and check the rules about car seats. At the parks there are loads of taxis hanging around at the end of the night, when we stayed at our timeshare (just DBF and I, no kids the trip I'm referencing) we walked in the morning but at night we did not want to do that so we grabbed a taxi out front, it was super easy and not too $$. It was about $5 including tip.

We did this (sorta) this week and while it was easy peasy taking a taxi from the airport to the hotel, it was a pain trying to get one back to the airport. From the time we called for the taxi to the time it finally showed up was around 45 minutes. We were starting to panic a little. So if you're thinking about taking it back and forth from the park to your hotel, be prepared to wait. You might even wait longer than the time it would take just to walk.

Took a taxi tonight to Howard Johnson. One thing to note, the taxi pick up is now in downtown disney, by ESPN Zone. This had changed since our last visit when they were out front past the shuttles.

The rate from that point to HoJo was $8.15. We had a mini van taxi. We took the monorail to DTD and then hopped in the taxi, my feet just would not make it here tonight.

The walk from the DLR gates to ESPN Zone in DTD must be about the same as the walk to HoJo's itself. Was that really a time saver?

right. we just happened to be in tomorrowland after our last Buzz Lightyear ride. Fireworks were close to getting started and the park was PACKED today (busy Saturday per the CMs I talked too). So we took the monorail to DTD. This saved me the .50 mile walk from maingate to HoJos, which seriously, was a lifesaver.

Yeah, the whole carseat thing kind of kills it. Didn't think about that. Thanks everyone!
