Taxi vs. Towncar

are you comparing cost or convienience?

I like not having to drive and many towncar companies will grant you a 30 minute grocery stop included in your rate.

Are you going to stay exclusively at Universal grounds? If you are, then having a rental car is no perk and I believe you have to pay for parking. If you want the freedom to "go where you want when you want" then the rental car is a nice option.

Cost wise, the car is probably a little cheaper although with parking, not necessarily so. I have had great luck with Towncars from Florida Tours (sponsor of the DIS).

Last trip was the first time we ever did a towncar. Previously, I had always felt I needed the freedom of a rental car, particularly in WDW where we hate the hastle of the buses at times. But this past trip I knew we had no interest in leaving UO grounds, plus it was a surprise trip for the kids and the towncar added a special dimension (our name on the "card" at the bottom of the escalator). We used FL Tours and the service was fabulous. It was so relaxing to sit back and let someone else drive for a change. And, since we were there for six days, it was alot less than the cost of a rental plus parking.

Thank you all!!

We are going to Discovery Cove one day and Sea World another. We are staying at Royal Pacific. I know they have a shuttle service, but I am not sure how often they run or how flexible they are. We are at the hotel 8 days, so a rental car is expensive, but gives us flexiblity.

I just don't know!!!

Julma-

When you price out a rental car plus parking, compare that to the town car price.

Okay so plan on using the shuttle. Let's say you try it the first day and you don't like the times, even adding in the cost of taking a taxi would probably still be a better deal for you, just another thing to consider.

We always opt for the town car. When you add up parking fees for the parks as well as the hotel, rental rates for the car it just seems a better value for us. Even when we also have side trips to disney or seaworld. I like the convenience of a town car and letting someone else do the driving!

I am traveling with my 12 year old son, just me and him this trip! I hate the thought of arriving at the airport and finding the rental car desk, then finding my way out of the airport parking lots. So, I'm using Tiffany Towncar to pick us up at the airport to take us to Hard Rock. My son is doing a baseball camp while we are there, so I also need a car. I'm renting that once we get to the hotel. I have it all set up and I think it will work out great. Hertz Rental Cars has rentals directly from Portofino and Royal Pacific. So, for your situation, it may work out that you could just do a daily rental for when you need a car.

Thank you Love2vacation. I think that will work. I will check it out. I don't know if you have ever used Tiffany, but we have several times and have always had good luck.

We use Florida tours also. It is cheaper then a taxi. If we do decide to go off site (we usually always decide to go someplace else while staying on site) we use Mears. Not sure what they charge, maybe 10.00/per person? RT.
