I am on the fence right now. I am coming into Kissimmee 3/25 on the Amtrak. The towncar service I have arranged for is $90 roundtrip not including tax. I;m staying at Pop, so I can take the bus to the parks. I was planning on taking a taxi to Chef Mickey's because the ADR person said I might not get there for my 7:30am ressie. That would be $15 or so. And on my departure day, I was thinking of going to the outlets for a bit(taxi there and back ???$)

I can rent an economy car for the week for $142. They will pick me up at Amtrak. I booked through AAA, so I would be able to use the AAA parking pass, plus free parking since I am onsite. Of course, I will have to fork out maybe $40 for gas to refill the tank on return.

I am just wondering about the pros and cons of both. Any advice?

I personally would rent a car, seeing how there really is not much of a total price difference. It is so nice to not have to rely on the buses! I really think you save time too. It also gives you the freedom to go offsite for groceries or to the drug store. I am a big worrywart too, so I like knowing that I can come and go as I please and not have to wait on transportation in case I have to go somewhere in a hurry. Will you have children with you? Having a car makes coming and going to the parks easier- my kids can't stand to wait or be on the bus very long. You could try Priceline- you can probably get an excellent deal on an economy. We have rented from several companies in Orlando, and they have been very easy to deal with!! Good Luck! :)

Its just me and my 11yo DS. I imagine we will drive to the parks if we have a car. Do you think I can do better than $142 for the week on priceline? I need a company that will pick me up at the train station.

I would rent a car. I wouldn't do priceline if you want them to pick you up at the train station, because I really doubt they would do it. We always rent a car, but we have never left from the train station, so I am not much help there. You might want to check out mousesavers.com because Mary has lots of great codes to get a few dollars off your rental.

Oops! Priceline would be a risk since you are coming in on the train- I have no idea what companies would pick you up there. Mousesavers is an excellent suggestion for codes. Also if you get an Entertainment book, in the middle of it there are a bunch of coupons for rental cars. There is info about the Entertainment book on the Mousesaver website as well. I think you will really enjoy the freedom you'll get with having a car. Driving around the resort is really easy- there are signs EVERYWHERE tellling you where to go. :thumbsup2 Good Luck!

Yes, I used a code from the Entertainment book to get 20% off Enterprise rates. I also checked different Enterprise locations around Kissimmee and there was up to a $40 difference for the same car.

Without a doubt - rent a car! It will make your vacation sooooo much easier.
