Hi all
arriving from the U.K. in September and previously have always used Magical express. For a party of 3 adults we are wondering if a direct taxi would be better instead or relying on Mears. Any idea how much a taxi would cost and where do they go from? We would need a mini bus type vehicle I reckon as we would have 5 full size suitcases plus carryon.
any words of advice greatly appreciated.

Never used a taxi, but have used Uber. Asked for an extra large vehicle due to the luggage. I believe the cost was around $45 each way for the times we needed service.

There was a designated place outside of the terminal luggage claim area for such transportation services to come to pick up customers.

I just did a car service through happylimo. Loved it so much and was worth every penny. We landed at 9 and pulled into our hotel at 9:45. (I4 was completely backed up or else probably would have been even faster. )

My dh prefers a taxi. You can get it on both A and B sides. However the side the ME used to be on is always less busy. Head out that side , same level and the taxi stand is to the left, facing outside from old ME station. If you head outside from going down the escalator it is not far from there. It is around $60 depending on resort.

Dh likes taxi because they are there waiting and if you have an issue they have a place to call for help. A friend recently left a phone on an uber and it was a nightmare getting it back. They finally had to involve Disney security to help.

With DD we use uber and it is cheaper 35-40 ish.

I also use Royal Transportation for returns. It is about 100 tax and tip included for a car but they have other options. I really enjpy them for heading home. Clean vehicles and friendly drivers.

5 full size suitcases plus carryons, means 8 bags. I would be looking at contacting a private car service rather than using a cab. I don't know what Orlando's policy is on the cab rank at MCO. In some places you don't get to choose which type of cab you get.

I would definitely consider booking car service (black car) rather than getting a taxi. With that much luggage, you will likely need an SUV at minimum.

My thoughts as well. I realise a regular yellow cab would not work. keen to know if waiting for a taxi they can call for a larger one. Cost wise while not critical I see booking a suv is around 120 , taxi approx 60 and mears bus for the 3 of us also around 60.
thanks all for the words of wisdom , appreciated.

I haven't taken a cab from MCO in years and I'm not sure how it works. I don't know who "they" are who could call a larger cab for you. Is there an airport employee who could/would call a cab company? Or an employee who calls cabs over from a line where they are waiting, and could notify a larger one to jump the line?

Just pondering this for OP. I always reserve a towncar.

There will usually be van taxis available at the airport.

We were there in March with 3 people. 3 large bags, 3 carryons. We got a taxi and just waited a couple extra minutes for a mini van. It was about $60 with tip to the Boardwalk. Going back to airport I called an Uber xl. It was a little cheaper and Uber arrived within 5 min.

I have a corollary question: is the taxi fare between MCO and WDW a fixed rate, or metered? Does it vary with the direction of travel, i.e. MCO to WDW different from WDW to MCO?

It's been a while since I used a taxi from MCO, but yes, there was a line and a person who would call up a cab from the line for you. I usually use Lyft in MCO, but oddly at home from Reagan airport a taxi is less expensive, plus they are sitting there.

I thought about starting a new thread, but my questions seem on topic enough. We have two adults and three kids in our party, and I can't really determine a good reason to take the Mears Connect shuttle over a taxi van. The cost would be pretty much the same, but we would have a private ride versus having to potentially stop at multiple places with the shuttle. What else am I missing to make a decision with these options?

The ages of your kids and whether you’ll need car seats

The youngest will have a booster, but the others are fine. We are planning on just bringing the booster seat with us. This won't change the cost, correct?

Nope. It would only be an issue if you weren’t bringing any seats and needed them. With five people, you’ll need an XL. Keep that in mind.
