I just got off the phone with Star taxi service...I found them on the internet in the chamber of commerce site. I was pricing Mears and other services to get a large party of 13 to Downtown Disney. I was floored when she told me that they have a 14 passenger van that was a flat $36 fare to Downtown Disney. I asked her repeatedly to confirm that it was not per person. She assured me that it was the flat rate total and even arranged a return pickup on their schedule.

Anyone ever been burned by this or have any first hand knowledge of how the taxi's work here?

Thanks!

Staying with name brands is better, especially for a first time visitor. Also get a written confirmation.

If you can't print out reservations or orders you make on the Internet, or don't know how to, then you should not be buying or booking on the Internet.

Reconfirm the fare with the driver before getting into the vehicle at the airport. At least in this case, 13 people can certainly force the driver to take just one $36.00 if he surprises them at the end of the trip with something much higher.

As far as taxicabs go, do not take unmarked "taxis" that just come up to you and offer to take you to Disney. Regrettably small "mom and pop" companies (taxis, car rental agencies, etc.) still on average are more likely to give you a nasty surprise or a rude awakening.

Another problem with noname taxi companies is that they might not show up. Just because they have a web page does not mean thay operate more than one car and if it breaks down ...
