How do I find out the amount of real estate tax paid in 2017. I purchased resale and repaid the seller at closing in the maintenance fees.
I see on my 2018 maintenance fee invoice that the property taxes are broken out. They show a rate of 1.311. Then that rate is multiplied by the number of points I have to show me the 2018 real estate taxes.

I tried Disney Accounting and Member Services, No Luck
I tried Orange County Tax Collector and Property assesor. No Luck

Can someone who owns at SSR tell me what the 2017 rate was? I would like to claim these taxes on my income tax this year as this will be the last year to claim property taxes if you pay over 10000.00.

TIA

On the dashboard, there is a link for dues. Next to it, there is a dropdown box for the year. If you click that, you can see last year and the taxes paid as well as dues paid.

The OP most likely won't see the 2017 dues online since they weren't billed for them (the prior owner was).

You are correct Michael. That is why I was looking for someone who owns at SSR and can give me the tax rate. If I have the tax rate I can figure it out as I have 300 points

I missed that part that they purchased last year.
You are correct. The fact that the OP repaid the seller for the taxes does not help them. According to tax records, the original owner paid the taxes and gets credit for it (even though the OP repaid them for it). A similar question was asked in another thread with that given as the answer from DVC.

if we paid the 2017 dues at closing for our recent resale, 641.00 do we claim those?

So according to my dues statement page the actual 2017 property taxes per point was $1.1967.

Momtwoboys: You cannot deduct the entire dues, just the property taxes.

I am not an accountant and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last nite (or a DVC for that matter), check with a tax professional before deducting anything. An audit will cost you a lot more than the $$$ you might save.

I would check with your tax accountant about whether you can deduct them or not. I was told we could not by our accountant. As I understand it, if you paid the dues directly to DVC, they report that to the IRS for you to deduct. If you paid the taxes as part of closing costs for a resale contract, even if you are reimbursing the owner for taxes they paid for that year, you cnnot deduct them as the IRS has the original owner paying the taxes.
Our first year taxes, we could not deduct because of this (without the potential of triggering an audit for claiming taxes that aren't assigned to us), but did the second year.

One more wrinkle....
If you are renting out your points, you can deduct the cost of the dues from the rental proceeds. This may be more advantageous than deducting the property taxes for those points which you rented out.

Did you pay the dues, or did you reimburse the seller for the dues that they paid? My understanding is that it makes a difference, but I’m not a tax attorney.

I paid the 2017 dues at closing along with the 2018 dues, the seller was default in the 2017 dues... they never had paid them.

But you had better claim the rental proceeds as cash income.

I just tried that and don't see it. There's a link for "Dues" on the Dashboard. When I click on it I get a page called "Annual Dues Overview" It has 3 boxes. On confirms my Dues have been paid in full and has a check box to make a payment. The next is an option to setup auto-pay. The last says "Dues Statements not available" and has no link or check box. Further down the there is an option for "View Dues Transaction history" but when you click it there is no history.

My 3rd box has a button for "view statement". (I also have a red line across the top that says my new dues billing statement is now available). Once I click on that, I can see a drop down box to choose a year. If you see Dues statement not available, then you'll need to call. My guess is that it's either delayed because you just purchased or you can't see it because the previous owne paid the 2018 dues as a condition of sale and he/she got the statement.

If you have had the contract for over a year, under the Membership contracts is a link to view dues transaction history. This is where you will see previous dues and taxes paid.

On the main menu, click Annual dues in the drop down menu.
Click Annual Dues Statement
Click on Statement year and a drop down box opens
This will show the property taxes paid that you paid for each year that you held the contract.
