I've always used Turbotax and then last year I used turbotax free online but can't this year but see taxact.com is free to all users living in certain states, mine being one of them. Anyone use this site? How is it ease wise compaired to turbotax? Anything I need to be concerned about using them?? All help very much appreciated!!

I have used them for the last three years and have never had a problem except that my state is not one of the free ones. Never used turbotax but taxact is super easy, walks you through every step. :goodvibes

We've used taxact.com for the last two years with no problems at all. We were originally going to use TurboTax last year, and completed the return up to the end, until we noticed that they charge $9.95 to efile. Ditched that return, and used taxact instead. Taxact was very easy to use, easy to follow, and my paperwork went through without a hitch. It was so easy, in fact, that I did both of my SILs' tax returns as well as my brother's. They couldn't believe that it was completely free until they all got their refunds. ;)

I used them last year as well as this year. Never had a problem it is super easy to use and the IRS accepted my refund in 24 hours. They do charge you to efile for state though but I never do I just have them fill out the form print it out and mail it in. I normally owe for state anywayse so I put that off.

I've used them for the past 3 years and never had a problem at all. My return is direct deposited in my account in about 10 business days.

I used them this year for the first time (I usually use Turbotax) and my refund was deposited today :) Very user friendly site

This was our third year using them too. As always, went off without a hitch. Very simple to use, even when you itemize. :wizard:

I did my taxes on both TurboTax and TaxAct to see if there would be a difference (since TurboTax didn't have up the worksheet for college tuition deductions I figured I'd give TaxAct a try). Unfortunately, TaxAct did not pick up a one of the deductions for vehicle use for my small business that TurboTax did. Other than that, it was just as good. So, I'm waiting for TurboTax to update before I file - every deduction counts!

I have used TaxAct for the last 3 years. My state, Texas, is not listed as a free state on the irs.gov website. So, I went straight to the TaxAct website and was able to e-file my taxes for free.

I have a very simple tax return. The program was very easy to use.

:woohoo: I just did my taxes w/ tax act yesterday. In about 2 weeks Ill be calling for that room ressie Ive been dreaming about!!! :cheer2:

I've used the "free" version for years. During the filing process, they offer their Deluxe version, which I decline and continue. This year, when I got to the e-file process, I was "offered" some opportunity to "archive" my return. I don't need that. I don't believe anyone needs that. The return can easily be saved to hard drive, cd, etc.. I saw no opt out opportunity, so I feel I was tricked into paying $9.95 to e-file - FREE. I'd decided I'd try Turbotax, next year, but, I see they've come up with the same trick.

I've used taxact for the past 2 years, never had any problems and it was $14.95 to file (my state is not free). DBF uses turbotax, won't listen when I tell him to try taxact, he paid $90 to file.....I'll be using taxact for the foreseeable future. :)

we've used it for the past 3 years and I love it. I entered our info on turbo tax and on tax act....came out the same, only tax act is MUCH cheaper. We submitted our return, it was accepted the next day. I can't say anything but good things about it. :thumbsup2

I have been using TAXACT since 2005. I have never had a problem. I pay the $20.00 or so to file both federal and state. I am able to just pull in my information for next year. I do not pay for the back up. I have all my returns printed and saved onto 2 separate hard drives.
The Q&A are very easy even when DH lost a job, had unemployment, and eventually started soccer refereeing which is considered self employment. We have used it to do our taxes when we adopted which is spread out over 4 years. I can't say enough great things about TAXACT.

I just paid $66.90 to TurboTax to prepare and e-file our Federal & GA returns. This is only the 2nd year I've used an online service. I always saw TaxAct advertise "free" or very low cost to file, but didn't know anyone who had experience with them and I was leery. :confused3

Based on what I'm reading here, next year I'll be using TaxAct! Thanks for the great info! :thumbsup2

I did not pay for the archive option.

I pay for the efile for my state and that's it.

I just looked into my info and the archive option is not listed as $9.95. (It says $12.95 or $5.95 discounted in an email I got after I filed.) The only thing I see that's $9.95 is the "Deluxe" edition and it states that you are charged when you file. Perhaps you accidentally used the deluxe instead of the free version?
