I know ASMo has 13% tax total,
(apparently that varies by resort
depending on what county they are in).
But, does anyone know what the tax rate
is on merchandise, food service, restaurants at WDW?

TIA!

Only in Orange County. Osceola County where the All Stars are is 7% on food and merchandise but you will still pay 6.5% on tickets since they can only be used in Orange County, not in Osceola.

The basic Sales Tax Rate in Florida is 6.0%. Counties have the option of a surcharge of 0.5%, 1.0% or 1.5% which takes an approval vote of their residents. Orange County, which is all of WDW except the All Stars and Wide World of Sports has a 0.5% surcharge so the Sales Tax rate is 6.5%, Osceola County (AS & WWS) has a surcharge of 1.0% so the rate there is 7.0%. The rate is on all meals and most goods and services.

In addition, Orange County has a 5.0% lodging tax so for rooms in Orange County you pay a total of 11.5% combined rate. Osceola County has a 6.0% lodging tax so you have a combined rate of 13.0%.

I hope this makes sense

Thanks Mike.
Yes, it makes perfect sense.

I live in a county up north where we
first paid 1% tax to our school district,
then the next year the district my DH
works in decided they wanted a piece of the pie,
so then it became .5% to each.
And of course that change came 7 months into the year.
Only problem was that DH's employer decided they
didn't want to do the math for both districts,
so everyone there had to pay it themselves every quarter.
That left us with having to do lengthy paperwork
for both districts every 3 months, making sure to have
the money ready to pay them each time.
Then, of course, both had to have final returns filed in April.
We were supposed to realize a savings of 50% off our
borough yearly tax, but that only lasted the first year.
We now pay to both districts, plus the borough, county & school (twice).

Sorry to vent *sigh*.
I understand & thank you very much for the excellent explanation.

Americans allow themselves to be nickel and dimed to death by continually passing .5% and 1% tax hikes. It definitely adds up, yet people are so willing to pass them.

I couldn't agree more.
I make a note of every local person on
the Board that is responsible for passing these things,
and they don't get my vote the next time.
I guess the only good thing to be said about
where we live is that once the borough/township
you live in passes a percentage tax,
then no other place (like the borough/township you work in)
can claim more.
That's why when my DH's work township wanted some,
they had to split the original 1% between where we live
and where he works.
Although, where we live can certainly raise it again!
