I just added the DDP to my 3 night package for 2 adults. When I booked my package I was told it would cost another $233.94 - $38.99 pp - to add the DDP. Just now I was charged $243.94. When I questioned the extra $10 she told me it was a tax. Anyone heard of this?

No, and that'd be an interesting tax - given that, at 4.27% it's more than 2% lower than the actual sales tax in Florida, PLUS that the price of the Dining Plan includes tax on both ends. The $38.99 already includes the tax when you purchase the plan, and it covers the tax when you order your meal.

I'd call back.

kaytieeldr is correct.

I did call back and got another agent. She told me the same thing about it being a tax. I asked the tax rate and she told me it was 6.5% plus extra tax for the resort. I pointed out that tax rate would equal more than $10 but she wouldn't listen. I also pointed out that the tax is included in the $38.99 rate but she insisted that meant only at the restaurant. She told me you are charged a tax on the the DDP rate. I wonder if this is some sort of processing fee. I was told when I booked the package that as long as you were adding things you wouldn't be charged any extras fees. Any ideas?

I've never heard of Disney charging a processing fee when a Guest wants to spend MORE money on a vacation package :teeth:

Hate to do this to you, but I would call back yet again, and if you get the same answer ask to speak to a Supervisor. Be polite, but keep going up the chain of command until you (a) get a reasonable response or (b) get the $10 back. You have a PM - or will in a minute :)

OK - the 3rd phone call did the trick - I hope. This time I got an agent that told me it was indeed a processing fee added automatically by the computer. (I was just glad someone else didn't try to convince me it was a tax.) He told me there was nothing I could do about it. I told him that before booking the package I asked explicitly about any fees associated with adding the dining plan at a later date. I was assured that as long as I added the DDP at least 3 days before my trip there would be no extra fees since I would be increasing my package cost. (I actually had them repeat it to me to be certain.) He still said sorry. I then asked for a supervisor. He said they wouldn't be able to do anything about the $10 processing fee either. I said that was OK, I just wanted to voice my displeasure in their agents giving people bad info. He put me on hold and came back to say that the $10 fee would be credited to my card. Of course, I won't know for awhile if I actually get that credit but I will keep checking and keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for all you help. I really appreciated your advice. I know it was only $10 but for me it was the principle of it all. It was frustrating to be told it was a tax when it was a processing fee. If the first agent had told me that I probably would have just accepted it as the cost of doing business.
