OK, I must be old fashioned, but I just do not get the tattoo's. I see more and more young women have these done right above their butts to show them off when wearing a bikini. Do they think it looks nice?

I think they do look nice.

And what's more, every eligible male I know REALLY thinks they look nice.

So I have no problem with them (and actually, wouldn't even if I didn't think they looked nice).

I personally don't like them on men or women.

I like most tattoos... and I like them on most people. I realize not everyone does, but I know for me, I love mine, the look and the location of it.

I have two tattoos and I'm starting the artwork on my third and fourth. My Mom isn't a big fan of tattoos but when I went to get my tongue pierced she begged me to get another tattoo instead. I did both :teeth:

Once you get a tattoo they become addictive. I have one on my lower back that can only be seen when I wear a bikini, but I'm really thinking of getting another one on my shoulder. It seems like everone is getting one!!

I'm not a big tatoo person. I don't see why every girl wants one to think they're sexy. My boyfriend wants one next year when he's 18. He wants a cross or something. I'm to keen on the idea though.

The only person I've seen that looks good with them is Guy Pierce in the movie "Memento"

I certainly don't think my tattoo makes me sexy. It's cute and they are just fun to have!!

All those teens that get tattoos on their lower backs are just trying to be sexy, and showing off the fact that they're sluts. That's all it is to me. I have a tattoo on my ankle of Tinker Bell, but that's something I actually care about. Those stupid girls have no idea what they're doing.

I just got 2 butterflies on my lower back for my 30th birthday. I had one (and angel) from when I was 21. That one is on my hip & doesn't really mean much to me anymore. But I am VERY proud of my butterflies - one pink for dd5 and one blue for ds2.

I like my tatoos. I am done & don't plan on getting any more. I like that I can show them or hide them, it's up to me.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. That's what I love about the DIS!

If this makes any sense -
It took me MANY years before I actually got mine. I thought of what I wanted & waited for 1 year to see if I still loved it. I also kept thinking - will this be something that will still have meaning & that I will still want 50 years from now. I had one created for me & I will never regret it. I have mine on my hip - it only shows if I show it or if I am wearing a high cut bathingsuit. I got mine for ME not because it was a fad.

To me, the tat has to have meaning. The only names I would put on my body would be my child or my late family or friends name. I don't believe in putting a BF/DH or GF/DW's name (I have found that is usually a bad omen!, LOL! ). I don't think a kid should get a tat just because it "looks cool" or because it is something that some celebrity has. I know people that have tribal art or chinese letters/symbols & other things that they really have NO clue about the meanings! Those are the ones that I don't agree with. (not that I go up to everyone I see & ask them if there is meaning behind their tat(s)!).

& Yes, I do plan on getting another one. This one will be created for my DD. I still am not positive of what or where it will be yet, but I will be getting another one.

JMHO.

Lady Bear - I have one on my hip in the same location. And I think you are totally right about needing to make a choice that you will be thrilled to live with forever!

I had the right image but my first tatoo wasn't very well done - the "artist" wasn't an "artist" ...luckily I found another guy who could work over the original and make it beautiful.

I have student who just willy nilly mark themselves...I think they'll regret it.

Wow, awfully judgemental there. First, a good tattoo artist will not work on anyone who is under age. Second, how does one leap from tattoo to slut? Third, You don't personally know if "those girls" are smart or not, they had to know what they were doing, they have the ink.

You care about Tinkerbelle, so you have her tattooed on your ankle. Did you ask the artist if he has permission to use a copy righted peice of art? Did you pay for the use of that art?

And to the OP, "Do they think it looks nice?" well I don't imagine that very many people go to get a tattoo thinking "I will get this because it will look nasty".

I have seen many badly done tattoos, many that I thought were unatractive, and a lot that I liked. I especially like Helenabear's and my 2. ANd for the record, I am not some young girl who think it's sexy. I am over 50 and I did it becasue I like them.

I like tattoos, and especially on the lower back. If I ever get one (like, when they find a way to do it without needles!), that's where I'd get it.

I was 19 when I got my tattoo. I thought about it for five years. I then consulted the artitist, had it drawn, and played around with the colors.

Mine is around my ankle, like a bracelet. I have three dolphins separated by three stargazer lilies. My tattoo represents my favorite animal and my favorite flower. Three is also my favorite number.

In addition, my parents couldn't wait to see it. My mother even paid for it. My father has two, my sister has one, and my brother has three.

As long as you give it some thought and it has meaning, a tattoo is a wonderful thing.

I also have piercings: three in my left ear, two in my right ear, my belly button, and my tongue. I love them, too. I don't see anything wrong about it. I had my tongue pierced when I was 18 (22 now), and I've never regretted it. Same with my tattoo.

Mine is on my lower back - not on the spine, but to the right.
I guess I'm a slut then because I got it on my 18th birthday and when I lose 50lbs I am going to get another one .

Funny, I thought I was getting something I had wanted for a long time and had meaning to me. I got it for me, not because it was something cool to do and I don't care if it looks sexy or not.

A tattoo is a personal decision and IMHO who am I to tell someone how they should express themselves using their body?
