Target gift cards to Disney gift cards...NO LONGER

Just tried to buy Disney gift cards online using the Target e gift cards that I bought at carpool.com and the order went through, but then I'd get an email saying that my order was cancelled. I called target.com customer service and was told that you can't use a gift card to purchase another gift card. I told him that I've been doing this every month for the past year with no problems, but he said that it's a new policy. Guess Disney gift cards are no longer considered "entertainment cards"

Check the Budget Board, there have been several posts about this the last few weeks. I think people are still doing it in store, you just can't combine the gift card with a Red card to get 5% off.

Pretty sure I saw this warning a month or two ago? You can still do it in a physical store, just not online.

I must have missed it...oh, well. Now what do do with my $100 worth of target e giftcard? Shopping spree!

We just went through this headache a week or two ago. So here's the deal, according to the supervisor I spoke with over the phone. The OP is correct that Target gift cards can no longer be used to purchase another gift card (Disney or otherwise) online, even if you order other non-gc merchandise. The problem is that there is no control over the order in which your items will ship, and items are charged as they ship. So if your gc happends to ship first, your Target gift card cannot be applied to that order; whereas it could be applied if your non-gc items shipped first. Still with me? In store, you can definitely use the Target gc for a Disney gc, but you have to purchase an equal amount of non-gc merchandise to make the purchase go through. We were stuck at a register for over an hour (!) figuring this out. The poor team member was trying everything in her power, but she couldn't do it. When we went back on another day, purchased the Disney gc and lots of other stuff with a total equal value (so $50 Disney gc + $50 or more of other non-gc stuff), everything went through just fine. The register assumes the gc is being applied to the other stuff and that you are paying directly for the Disney card. Aaaaaaagh! This works fine if you were going to buy things at Target anyway, but it sure is complicated.

I do the same as above. I always have things to purchase at Target, so spending $50 on items is never a problem, and then I pick up a Disney gift card as well, and pay with my Target gift cards. :)

Definitely check out the Disney gift card thread on the budget board. Purchasing gift cards with Target gift cards online is 100% dead no matter what you do or don't try to purchase with your Disney gift cards. The only issue people are reporting in purchasing Disney gift cards with Target gift cards is when a Target employee gets uppity with them and insists it's not allowed. It is. The computer has let everyone's purchases go right through. Up until today I'd never read of an issue with the register not allowing it. I would go to your local Target & try, you don't have anything to lose. I'd also opt for self check-out if that's an option to avoid the potential for employees saying no before even trying to check you out. The worst that happens is it doesn't work.

@theluckyrabbit I have never seen a report like yours. And don't take that wrong way! Just trying to figure everything out. Maybe your specific Target has a different register system than others. Like a more updated system maybe? There are lots of reports of people buying Disney gift cards with Target gift cards in store no issues. If your Target has new or updated computer systems this could be an important advance warning that in store gc to gc purchases are going away too. Did you try using self check-out by chance?

HUGE gc thread on the budget board..... lots to read, daily updates..... no gc purchse using a gc online at Target for a while now, you can still use it instore to buy disney gc

It couldn't have been that long ago. I did this like 2 weeks ago and received the card. :(

Bummer, this has been my go to since ordering from Disney takes so long. I do it more in store than online, so hopefully the mention of having to have non-gc items of equal value isn't true. I usually use Disney gift cards to pay for our hotel stays and don't really need to grab 1000 dollars in merchandise on top of my gift cards :crazy2:

Well you can still use the Target gift cards to purchase in-store. The last I heard, anyway.

The first team member gave up and called for a manager. That poor girl was almost pulling her hair out over our transaction! The manager didn't know what to do either. The register kept asking for an "event code" to complete everything. All we wanted was 2 Disney gift cards (2 x $50), paid for with 2 Target gift cards (2 x $50). No go, no how. Could have been a glitch in the system, an error by the manager, or something else. Do you have a link to something I can print out to show that buying gift cards with gift cards in store is allowed? Because the supervisor I spoke with over the phone said that this is no longer possible unless I purchase at least an equal amount of other merchandise.

I got my Disney GC last weekend with target egiftcards from swagbucks. I did not have any trouble however I was warned that this was coming and so from now on I'm going to be buying gamestop GC's to turn into my Disney giftcards in the future.

This is huge for me since this is how I fund a significant part of our trips.

Did you get it online or in store?

Oh my goodness I feel bad for you and those Target employees! It's debatable whether or not gc to gc is technically allowed :( It's clearly not allowed online (says so right on the Disney gift card page on Target.com) but the policy for in store is fuzzy at best. The best I can come up with is do you have another Target you can try? Maybe in a nearby town? Yes, I'm totally spitballing here, but maybe if you can get to a different checkout system than your particular Target you'll get around the issue.

ACK!! GS's gc to gc got totally shut down a little while back and is popping up again sporadically. I recommend some serious reading on the gift card thread. (Some people ended up becoming game flippers as they attempted to use their gift cards to buy games and sell them to Best Buy to try to get out of the GS gift cards. Others just took the loss and sold out of the GS gc online to get cash.)
