Is saving 5% using Target Red Card to purchase Disney gift cards the best deal out there? SAMs club offers a discount but I don't think it is that much. Am I correct? I need $2200 to pay for a dining plan. Last night I did buy 2 $50 cards and successfully transferred the balance to one card...awesome cuz I can't use more than 6 cards to pay.

If you want to keep it simple I think 5% is the norm. There are folks on the "disney gift card deals" thread that are very savvy at stacking gift/rewards cards (not even sure if I'm using the right terminology) and saving a bit more. I tried reading that thread but it started to make my head spin so I bailed.

Sam's Club offers Disney GCs at about a 5% discount as well and they usually have them in stock. I didn't want to buy them online because I don't like the idea of thousands of dollars worth of GCs sitting in my mailbox. I just purchased $500 GCs there to pay off our trip. Saved about $300 overall which isn't huge savings but I'm happy with it.

No, the Target 5% is not the best deal out there, but it is the easiest and safest. If you want more, then check the Disney Gift Card Deals thread. Start about 30 pages from the end before you ask questions. No one on that thread will draw you a road map but they will answer specific questions.

There are a lot of ways to save if you are willing to put in some work, have patience, and often, take some risk. The others are right that the Gift Card thread is the place to learn, and that is part of doing the work and having patience. :)

As far as Target/Sam's people often say they are both 5% but that's not accurate. Sam's Club is 4.68% savings IF you have a membership. If the only things you are going to buy there are gift cards, the cost of membership reduces (or negates) the savings. I use Sam's Club all the time because it's a local store for me (no Target).

If you have a Discover Card - Sam's club is one of the 5% extra cash back categories beginning in October. I plan to buy some then.

Can you tell me how much Sams charges for the $500 Disney gift card? Not sure if I want a membership. It may be worth it to combine their discount and the Discover card rewards

$474.75 for the $500 card. I just joined about 2 weeks ago and got 50% off their $45 membership fee. If you google "Sams club membership discount" you should be able to find it.

There's lots of advice on gift card churning and manufactured spending in the large Disney gift cards thread. However, if it's time to cash out, or if you just want something simple, then I think the best discount is to use Chase credit cards at Sam's Club.

1. Start with the 5.05% discount at Sam's Club.
2. Earn 5% points using a Chase Freedom Card.
3. Convert the Chase Freedom points to Chase Ultimate Rewards points if you also have a Chase Sapphire or Ink credit card.
4. Redeem the Chase Ultimate Rewards points at a minimum value of 1.7% for Southwest miles. Depending on how you use the Ultimate Rewards points, you can easily get to a value of 2.0 or 2.5% (or higher).

If you don't have a Sapphire or Ink card, then you will save around 10% - same as using Discover. If you have the Sapphire or Ink card, then you can easily save 15% or more without resorting to gift card churning or other manufactured spending (which is getting harder and harder to do every few months).

The $500 DW gift cards at Sam's cost $474.75 which is a savings of 5.05%

You are correct, I should have clarified I was talking about the 3-pack of $50s available in store. Those are 4.68% discount.
The $500 have a better discount but I have not heard of anyone finding them in store. As far as I know they are only available online and they charge shipping. Is that different from your experience?

Understood on the % discrepancy.

Yes my local Sam's has the $500s. Although not many of them. They did have an overwhelming amount of the $150s. Makes sense that you were speaking of the $150s as those seem to be the most popular by far.
