Tangaroa Terrace at the Polynesian was a restaurant at one time. Does anyone know what type of restaurant and perhaps has anyone here actually dined there. Also, anyone know when it was closed?

I remember having breakfast there the times my family stayed at the Poly in the mid-late 80s. All I can remember is that the breakfasts came out in cast iron skillets.

We ate there in the early 80's...Can't remember anything really about it though

We breakfasted twice at the TT in the late eighties. Nothing spectacular: a hotel coffee shop with a tropical theme. But since the resort sprawls so much, it mattered that guests in the eastern longhouses had a sit-down option close to them instead of having to schlep over to the GCH.

Oh the days when the Poly had good restaurants!!

Besides the excellent breakfast (a buffet style when we ate there) TT also served TS dinner. Tho not as good as Papeete Bay, it was good enough that we went for dinner twice. Can recall blackened grouper, but that's about all I can remember from the eighties dinners!!

TT was a rather "wide-open restaurant with plenty of booth seating. And located "mid Poly" and away from the main lobby area, it was very quiet.

It closed in 1996.

We ate there in the early 80's if its the restaurant I am thinking of. It was polynesian food. We sat at a window table that looked out at Bay Lake I remember having a chicken and rice dish that was served in half a pineapple. yum!:lovestruc
Sorry. I don't know when it closed.... it was where Ohana's is now If its the restaurant I am thinking of.

You're describing the Papeete Bay Verandah. They also boasted a live band. I've got lots of pictures of me dancing with the hula girl.

It was a popular breakfast spot for many years. I remember the Goofy kid's menu with the eggs for eyeballs and bacon pieces frame-you had to be there I guess. I also remember it being a Polynesian/Asian food buffet for dinner

I still have that menu, from when we took ds when he was small....I put it in a scrapbook,I wish the diff restaurants had cool kids menus again!

Oh I remember this place and loved it. Very nice and food was good. I believe it is now the Arcade location. It closed sometime in the 90's very sad to see it gone.

Was the Tangoara Terrace located outside of the ceremonial house? I think I ate there also if it was but I don't remember much about that restaurant.

We ate there on the last night of our honeymoon during a hurricane in 1995. They seved a buffet dinner, and I remember we enjoyed it, but I cannot recall what was served.

yes. We ate breakfast and lunch a few times in the late 70s and early 80s.

WONDERFUL breakfast there. Best item on the menu was banana stuffed French toast! Closed 1991-1992 roughly. Was open on and off for a while, then closed completely. Sad.

Yes I remember eating there. From what I remember it was first a table service restaurant with a menu and later I remember it being a buffet. The breakfast was very good. The kids loved the "egg glasses" from the kids menu. They used to have such cute kids menus.

I thought Tangaroa Terrace was the same location as Kona before it became Kona.

Before Kona it was Coral Isle Cafe if my memory is correct. They had this great chicken dish, Midori chicken (I think I have the spelling right). Even after it changed names and menus I would ask for it and if I got the right chef he/she would make it for me. Oh those were the days!! LOL!

Tangaroa Terrace was in that stand-alone building that is over by the DVC units. I think it was Neverland club more recently, maybe. I used to LOVE Tangaroa Terrace when it was open. Was sad when it closed and was hoping they would re-open it when they did the DVC units.

To be honest, most sit-down food in the seventies and eighties through the mid nineties was horrible. We had no identity as American diners, and the Food Network hadn't shown us healthier and tastier possibilities.
