Tampa vs MCO

Are there any particular benefits of flying into and out of Tampa instead of Orlando on WDW trips?

It's usually done when the airfare is less, especially when buying tickets for a whole family.

If you are going to rent a car anyway, it only takes an extra 1-1/2 hrs. at the most. And sometimes car rentals are even cheaper in Tampa.

We just book flights to tampa because the saving couldn't be beat.
We even saved on the rental car!

We plan on taking that travel day off so we will hit Walmart and DD before checking in.

In our case TAMPA was the best choice for this trip

The other advantage would be traffic, depending upon the day you come in. Coming into WDW from Tampa is against the normal traffic pattern. The fire problem on the Interstate from Tampa to Orlando is pretty much over until next season, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

we often fly into Tampa because of the airfares being less expensive. It is a smaller airport and getting around is a bit easier.
It takes us approx. 60 mins. to get from Alamo (where we usually rent a car) to the gate at OKW.
Should take less this time as we are using National and they are onsite.
We never hit traffic when we use MCO as we exit to the south at the airport and zip down the Fl. Greenway.
Very little traffic and it takes about 25 mins.

About an hour, hour and a half..depending on traffic. Morning rush hour traffic is terrible from the airport getting onto I4, and evening traffic is terrible from the airport getting on to I4. If you arrive anywhere from 10a - 3p, you should be fine. Evening traffic starts to pick up around 3:30/4p, so my advice is to get your rental car asap (the airport isn't that large) and head out to WDW as soon as you can. Once you're stuck in traffic trying to get onto I4, you will be at a dead stop for a little while.

E_mail me if you need help getting around or want locations for grocery stores or whatever. (this goes for all of you flying into Tampa..this is my home town!)
