Does a lot of the food at Tusker House have tamarind? My DD13 is badly allergic, and if she doesn't get to have any variety we won't bother going. I've posted a similar thread before, but I couldn't find it and I need some answers.

Thanks!

I had no idea what you were talking about so I looked it up.

Tamarind is:
"The fruit pulp is edible and popular. It is used as a spice in both Asian and Latin American cuisines, and is also an important ingredient in Worcestershire sauce, HP sauce and the Jamaican-produced Pickapeppa sauce."

I know when I was standing at a counter in one of the parks, waiting to pick up our counter service meals, someone asked a question about an ingredient in a item and the CM pulled a big notebook out from under the counter. In it was every item they served and all the ingredient and nutritional information about every item.

I would think that if you called Disney and asked them to connect you to the Tusker House that they could answer your your questions. As a courtesy, I would not call during real busy meal times.

I did find it listed as an ingredient at Jiko's at the AKL and at Anandapur Yak and Yeti Restaurant in AK.

It is also used in several dishes at Boma. As for Tusker House? I would do what the above poster said and call ahead. Disney is very good, or so I have heard, about dealing with guest's food allergies. Let us know what you find out!

Well thanks, if they use it a lot at those other restaurants I should definately call. I always try not to call at say 6, you can't hear the poor people, never mind they can't hear you! It's an odd allergy, I know, and a long story how we found that out. We were at a seafood restaurant when she was ten, she ordered a Thai noodle bowl, got out of bed that night with BAD hives and swelling,we had to rush to the emergency room and then by looking at the ingredients with the allergy docter a week later we had to use the process of elimination. It is a legume, kind of like a peanut, but it's odd how she's allergic to that and not any other nuts. Ten years w/out a food allergy (which is surprising, I'm allergic to lobster, but of course that's a lot easier to know whether or not you're eating it) and all of a sudden this sprang up, just weird I guess.

I hope we don't have to cross Tusker House out list! :guilty:
