I don't mean to judge or be mean, but I see large women wearing the tall black boots and I am no where near a large woman, and I cant seem to find any that fit around my calf. I have tried on wide calf boots, and they still dont fit! Where do these women find their boots?

They probably shop at plus size stores that specialize in larger sizes. I know Lane Bryant sells boots in larger calf sizes. I also have that problem. I'm average size but my calves are huge!

I am not a large woman but I have very large calves. I have the same problem and rarely can wear a boot that zips up, I have to buy the kind that you pull on. Last year I did find some black zip up boots that have an additional calf extender zipper (which interestingly, I don't have to use) to make them a little bigger. They were at DSW, don't know if you have one near you.

I have seen wide-calf boots in the Roaman's catalog, too....

My daughter is not plus sized but has the largest calves I have ever seen. Genetics and 12 years of soccer made her a mutant.

I found a pair of Candies boots on Kohls website last year that said Wide Calf (it's a search option) that fit her.

These:

Carlos boots at Famous Footwear. They are the only wide calf boots that I have found to fit my calf easily. I have tried on several wide calf boots that still would zip up, but these do easily. If you check under description on websites, they sometimes list the diameter of the calf.

Another thing about this brand is that the calf is wide, but the rest of the boot isn't, so my foots not sliding around.

Macy's

Try JC Penney. I just bought some tall black boots and they have an "elastic" panel on the back of them - that will stretch and fit over a wider calf.

There are varying degrees of wide calf boots, and what one brand calls wide calf may not be especially wide. You need to look at the circumference of the boot and measure your own calf at the widest part.

http://www.widewidths.com/ has all the way up to what they call super plus wide calf boots. They have lovely boots and excellent service. I bought a beautiful pair of boots there, before I figured out the whole wide calf system. They are pricey.

I've bought a couple of other pairs from 6pm.com, Zappo's clearance site. If you keep an eye on their website, they have amazing deals from time to time. I've gotten a couple pairs of great leather riding boots for $50. Boot deals tend to be best off season if you can wait. Also, if you sign up for their emails you'll get coupon codes.

It seems as though the really wide-calf boots are usually not real leather and tend to have goring somewhere (elastic) to give them more stretch to accommodate a wider range of calf circumferences. Certainly some of them are real leather, but look closely.

Not all wide-calf boots are the same, either...Frye's wide-calf circumference is much smaller than lesser quality wide-calf boots. I have smaller calves now (13.5" and 13" which are still not tiny) that I lost almost 30lbs and am at a healthy weight, but just a few months ago my bigger calf was 14.5" and even at that I had a very difficult time finding quality leather riding boots. My other issue is the shaft height...they're almost always too high and hit my knee.

But, in general, the really wide-calf boots are probably not leather at all, or very low quality leather boots...I'd guess plus size stores would have some.

Wide-Calf boots. They are available at almost all shoe stores. I know for sure DSW has them and so does Shoe Carnival - I bought mine at both stores!

I have bought wide calf boots at Macy's, Lane Bryant, and DSW. There is a HUGE difference from one brand to another, even one style to another. It's best to try them on. Macy's online tells you the calf circumference-some I would never consider wide calf.
The LB ones I bought because they were only $25 on clearance and I wanted a pair I could wear in the snow/slush and not ruin (non-leather). LB's boots are VERY wide calf.

I won't buy high boots for that reason.

Even when I was skinny/120 lbs (I thought I was fat, oh to be that fat again...), I couldn't fit into high boots.

I bought a pair that were over $100 in the late 80's/early 90s. I was probably around 16-20 years old.

I tried them on in the store, zipped them up & bought them. I was like yay they fit. I went home, retried them on because I was so excited & I swear my legs turned blue from loss of circulation. Back to the store they went.

Even ski boots used to do the same thing to me. I don't ski anymore so I don't have that problem. But anytime I look at the high boots I cringe knowing my legs will be blue & numb.

There are some nice quality leather wide-calf boots. The Fitzwell brand from Zappos/6pm are great for the price. I'm on year three of one pair and they are still beautiful. David Tate, Clarks and Rose Petals are other brands that have some good quality wide calf boots. Zappos carries a number of those.

I am the exact same way. I'm averaged size. I'm not large, but not a stick figure either. I don't think my calves are that big, but I can't fit in tall boots. I'm short. I think that is the reason why. I don't think the boots are proportioned for short legs unless you are also a stick figure. I think that my calve actually starts below where the boots expect it to. In other words, the boots are narrower toward the base because it is below the calf for most, but for me it is already where my calf is so it doesn't fit. Nothing irritates me more than when I try on "wide calf boots" and they still don't fit. Makes me feel like I must be huge, when I know I'm not. The only ones that I have found this year that fit me are the ones that the back is elastic and I really did not like those (you can find those at DSW). My 8 year old daughter wears a women's size 6 shoe and she fits beautifully in every pair of really tall boots that she wanders around DSW trying on (not that I would let her have any :)). They seem to work great for little 8 year old legs!

Even if you aren't short like me- it may just be that your legs are not proportioned in terms of where your calve starts as to where the boot thinks it should start.

If you find a great pair let me know because I would really like to have some!!!

I found some at Sears, that surprisingly were really cute and fit. I felt like I tried on tons of supposedly wide calf boots that came no where near close to fitting and I really don't feel like my legs are that crazy big.

I too had the same problem! I finally just found a pair at Macy's. They are by Style & Co. They are a wide leg boot. They come in a bunch of colors. They are frequently on sale. Ended up getting mine for only $27! They look great and I love them! You do have to wear a slim legging type pant or jean with them. Check them out.

I had looked, year after year, for wide calf boots that fit me. I finally found multiple pairs at DSW this year. I love my boots!

I, too, was going to ask if you are short. The wide width website mentioned before has a kind of primer on wide calf boots and it says that for short person your calf stars where a taller persons ankle is (which would be the narrow part of the boot).

So, I'm in the same bootless boat with you.
