Talk to me about medical care on board... (need some peace of mind!)

The medical facility is good. I broke a bone in my foot on the first day of a cruise and the doctor was great. I was given an X ray within minutes, put in a splint and provided with crutches and a wheelchair. They continued to check on me throughout the cruise too!

Whats been the out of pocket costs for these? Im a trained paramedic, the drugs could easily be gotten off the ship, depending on port you are visiting.

we paid: $140 for the doctor, $21.20 for a z-pack, $3 for cough drop (10 of them) ball thru the ships hospital. We paid about $50 in additional medication in the gift shop....more cough drops, advil, claritan and benadryl. Again we bought insurance so we did get all our money back.

Question: Do they have the motion sickness patches? We've never cruised before, and I do tend to get terrible motion sickness easily. still, I'd like to avoid wearing a patch if at all possible. I'm planning to have every other remedy in the book with me, including taking Bonine starting 2 days before the cruise. But worst case scenario, can I get the patch from the DCL doc if nothing else works?

My doc prescribes me medication used for vertigo patients. It works very well. I just take one per day (while on the cruise). I didn't think I get so sick, so I didn't take any medication. Until, the first night on the cruise, I got extremely, extremely seasick. I missed the first formal night on our honeymoon cruise because I was so nauseated. My husband went to the dinner alone because he didn't want to miss the lobster. I told him to go and don't waste a meal because of me. After experiencing that first night of seasickness, I took a pill and was fine for the rest of cruise. I now take this on every cruise we go on and we've been on 5 cruises. So, in my opinion, bring your own medication for seasickness. I don't know if DCL has any patches on board.
