:cool1: Ok - it's confirmed ONCE AGAIN that I am a certifiable DISNEY NUT!!

We had reservations at POR with the AP discount, then last night I had this revelation and realized that HEY - AKL Standard View room would be right close around the same price.

So I called CRO - first thing this AM - crossed my fingers and YES they had standard view rooms available with the AP Discount.

So now I have 5,928,329,734,872 questions!!!

What is the best rooms to request for the standard view that give you the best view and is closest to the lodge and everything that's going on?

Let's just start there to get this threat moving and I'm sure :rolleyes1 - I'll have more questions!!!

Thank you friends!!!

Disney Bumfords - Sorry I do not have any answers to your multitude of questiions but I just have to say Oh MY GOD! :Pinkbounc :cool1:  Thank you so much for the prompt to call about the AKL and AP rates. Yesterday there were no standard rooms available, but I just got off the phone and was able to book a room for July 16 through the 23 at $124 a night. Now I am really getting excited.

There have been a lot of reports of free upgrades from standard view to savannah view upon check in at AKL because of the limited number of standard views. Might be a hidden bonus.

I have no clue about which room, but if you can wait until we get back from our stay there, I will check it out for you.

Being close to the lobby only matters for Boma and Jiko's. You would rather be closer to the pool. I stayed there for the first time last month and before that I never knew that the arcade and Mara's (quick food restaurant) is right by the pool. We had the perfect room. 1456. It was as close to the pool, arcade, and Mara's that you could get. We loved it. To get to the lobby from there we took a elevator (about 30 feet from our room) to the 3rd floor (lobby level) and walked down a hallway to get there. I would request Zebra trail since I think its closer to everything. We were booked standard but were upgraded to pool-view. On here I've read most people are upgraded. We didn't use our balcony because there were so many trees and bushes blocking view into our room since we were right by the pool but we didn't mind a bit. Being that close to everything was worth it. We didn't hear any noise coming from the pool area.

Standard rooms are at the front of the resort overlooking parking in the Ostrich and Giraffe Trails. I would request something in the Giraffe Trail as that is on the pool side and you could get bumped across the hall to pool view. We were bumped from this requested Trail to Savannah view so it is possible but don't count on it.

The right side of the resort is closer to the pool with first floor rooms for an easy walk to the pool as was stated above. It's also where just about everything else is too. Don't put too many requests in if you hope to get bumped, just familiarize yourself with the layout of the resort so you'll know exactly where you want to be if you have to decide quickly at check in. The third floor is lobby level so if you want easy access across the resort from the left side, definitely hope for a room on this floor!

WOOOOHOOOO Goofy Guy!! Enjoy those rates!!

I just got back to the office after heading out to the mall for lunch. We like to go there, hit the food court and then of COURSE the Disney Store. Well as I was lurking around the counter area, three people were talking about recent trips to Disney and the one guy said that he just got back from staying at the AKL and he said they upgraded him to Savannah View for NO CHARGE!!

:goodvibes :goodvibes Please let that be me!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

We absolutely love the Animal Kingdom Lodge! Here are some links to get you started and answer some of those questions:

First, the Animal Kingdom Lodge Fequently Asked Questions thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=68312

Then the description and FAQ on Deb's site:

Want a resort map showing where all the rooms are (and different animals)?

We love the dedicated transportation, the pool, Boma, and of course sitting on your balcony in the morning or evening watching the animals!

Have a great time.
