Talk me out of spending money on an impromptu trip this week.

Hi responsible people!

Talk me off a cliff. I just got back on Sunday from a week in Orlando with my family. I had the best time and have been saying nonstop that I want to go back as soon as possible.

Well, turns out that I have an unexpected week off next week (the week prior to Easter). I'm not getting *paid* for this vacation (thanks, budget cuts), but it's still free time, technically.

My mind's been working overtime - my husband and I could drive the 17 hours to Disney, stay in a cheap off-site hotel, go to the parks for a few days, and drive back home in time for Easter, visiting family along the way in Pensacola.

I'm also supposed to be moving on April 2nd, still need to pay the pet deposit on the new place, and have a repair on my car I've been putting off. Also, we JUST spent a chunk of money on food and souvenirs on this trip last week - we could probably pay for all that and still pay our bills in April, but it'd be tight without that week of my income. Also, my husband works at a church, so he probably couldn't take more time off, *especially* right before Easter.

But Disney would be so fun!

Help! Stop me before it's too late!

You've made the perfect argument for not going. Don't listen to us. Listen to yourself. You know that now is NOT the time to be taking another Disney trip.

Don't ask me! I just booked an impromptu ski condo for Spring Break after all the late storms they got! :yay:You only live once....

Write down all the costs of the trip. And I mean ALL of the costs - not just hotel and tickets. Food, gas, parking, boarding the family pet, souvenirs, etc.

I find that what I often thought was "just" a $1000 long weekend trip suddenly grows to $2K or more by the time I do that. And **poof** - suddenly it isn't as attractive.

If you drive, your car will have issues, and something will happen to your new place while you are gone. That is what happens. Get your car fixed, pay that pet deposit, buy a Disney Gift card for your next trip, and plan a splurge dinner at home. Everything gets done, something done for your next trip, and you treated yourself.

Next week will be one of the busiest weeks at WDW. I would pass unless you could still convert your passes into APs and you are just there for the ambiance.

I would enjoy the memories instead. Did you take lots of photos? You might love putting them into a photo book. With the week off, you have time to work on it. Shutterfly often has codes to get a free book.

No way would I go on vacation the week before a move. Moving is stressful and has the entire house in disarray. My choice would have nothing to do with money but everything to do with timing.

^ This! We went one time the week before Easter and NEVER again, while the weather is perfect, the crowds are crazy insane!! My kids were 7 & 9 at the time and we got a stroller for them because it was wall to wall people and I was afraid of losing them, DON'T GO!!

Don't worry y'all, the 3-hour wait times on the MDE app today convinced me that I definitely made the right choice to stay home. I'm sitting here on my couch next to some moving boxes ready to be packed (it won't take long, it's only a 500 sq. foot apartment) dreaming of how much to budget for our next real trip. It was a nice dream to imagine being so irresponsible :)

Good choice!
