Please reassure me we will love SSR.
It is actually just me (Resort Snob), my DW is just excited we are going for a second trip this year.

Our Home is OKW. We just planned a last minute trip for 7 days the second week of March. Sorta last minute and the only thing for the 7 nights is SSR. This is actually the only DVC resort we have never stayed.
We did visit the pool once when my DW went to the Spa and really enjoyed it, but not sure how much pool time we are going to get the second week of March.

We almost had the first 2 nights at SSR and the last 5 at AKV SV.

I think if you like OKW, you'll be more than happy at SSR. Personally I found SSR underwhelming, I prefer my home resort (and a few others) for the theming.

I would have a great time at SSR, especially if the choice was that or stay home!:goodvibesI'm sure you will enjoy your visit too!

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. Are you going to waitlist for a more preferred resort? I don't see any harm in doing that, but you know, I think it's good to try SSR, and so in the future you won't have any qulams about staying there!

One thing really nice about the SSR studios is that the lock-off doors are up near the entrance so it really cuts down on noise from the one bedroom side. We noticed a big difference in noise in a SSR studio compared to BWV or VWL lock-off studios.

I like the location of SSR because I can get to restaurants quite easily at Downtown Disney and the Crossroads shopping center (my favorite pizza place is there - Flippers) and I am close to shopping. I personally don't care for the location of Animal Kingdom resort because I felt too far out from everything (except Animal Kingdom park).

I'd ask for Grandstand or Springs if you want to be close to the main pool and Congress Park if you want to be close to Downtown Disney. After the new pool and quick food service is added at the Paddocks in 2011, it won't matter as much where you end up at SSR.

Gee I wish my DH would take me for a second visit the end of this month (I have to wait until Dec for our 2010 trip).:thumbsup2 I would be happy staying anywhere! Once you get there just enjoy it for what it has and try not to compare...chalk it up to experiencing another cool resort. My local Dis group loves the food there.

SSR is one of my two favorite resorts...I love all the lovely walking paths (you can walk a lot or a little, as you choose); the rooms are pretty--I don't find them any less themed than OKW rooms; they're rather bland but still quite pretty...they do have one amenity which I really miss at other resorts--they have a mounted coat hook thingamijig where you can hang your jacket or raincoat...I miss that when I'm not at SSR...

I love Artist's Palette and Turf Club, and access to Downtown Disney, and all its dining choices is terrific...equally terrific is how much easier it is to get to other resorts because of the buses at Downtown Disney...

The Grandstand Pool and Congress Park pool are wonderful alternatives to High Rock Springs...the spa looks gorgeous altho I've not tried it...

It's hard to beat the Epcot resorts purely for locations, but as a resort, SSR is for me right at the top!

I know you can take the boat to Downtown Disney from SSR. However, I was wondering if there is a walking path you can take similar to what there is from BW to Hollywood Studios or Epcot.

Yes there is a path from CP to the Market Place.
It only used to take us about 5 mins last Sept, we were in the nearest building to the path.

We bought into DVC on our cruise in July, and when we came home, I changed our August trip from Port Orleans to the DVC resorts. Our last choice was SSR, but because of the last minute timing that was about all I could get. We found we loved it and returned there in January for the marathon weekend. We prefer the paddock, building 5500 to 5800 I think it was. It was right by a pool and bus stop and right at the bridge to get to the main building. We found it to be quiet and restful. they seemed to have a lot going on over at the main pool in August. This August we're staying at our home resort, BLT and hoping we like it half as much as SSR.

Our first stay here was because we booked last minute for an Easter vacation and this was all that was available. We loved it so much we bought a 3rd contract here.

We have stayed at SSR 5 times now and really enjoy the resort, the pace of the vacation here, etc. The last time my husband and I went by ourselves and we spent 90% of our time outside of the parks and really enjoyed the time we spent on our balcony or at the pools, etc. I went to the spa for a treatment almost every morning; we took nice walks around the resort and to DTD, ate at both the CS and TS.

We have stayed in Springs, Grandstand, Congress Park and Paddock (twice). We really enjoy Congress Park and Paddock more than Springs and Grandstand for an adult only trip. It's very quiet.

nobody mentioned the fact that you'll have a little more room in your room itself. OKw has 2 beds, SSR has a bed and pull out sofa. So it will feel like you have more room because your not walking "around" beds all the time. And the couch is nice to sit and watch TV or enjoy your snack/beverage when not on the balcony. We LOVE OKW for all the other rooms, but for a studio the other resorts are better. SSR grounds are loverly, I really think you'll enjoy it. Come back and let us know!:)

We too are somewhat "snobs" and didn't think we'd like SSR. It wasn't close to a park and wasn't elaborately themed. But we had developer points to use. We spent 11 nights and really enjoyed it. The proximity to Downtown Disney allowed us to have fun exploring there (House of Blues!!) and the pool and hot tub were great. We loved the counter service for breakfast and the spa is my favorite anywhere.

Downside is the buses. Rent a car if you can or be prepared for a couple long waits.

SSR is our home resort and we have stayed there several times since joining DVC. We have stayed at OKW a couple times too and love it, so I would say if you like OKW you will like SSR. I feel like the layout and decor of the studios makes it feel larger and more open than other studios (specifically OKW and AKV-KV). Proximity to Downtown Disney is great; we usually stay in the Congress Park area and have a pleasant walk to DD. We just came back (2/3 - 2/5) and rented bikes this trip; a beautiful way to check out the resort. We took the bikes to check out the Treehouse Villas and even rode over to OKW. The spa here is great and they have DVC member discounts. Also like Artiste's Palette for quick service, and just generally enjoy the grounds and atmosphere. Have a great trip!

while ssr is not my first choice for a dvc stay, it's certainly a beautiful and well appointed resort. Focus on the pro's. It's a huge, beautiful area and very close to downtown diz :)

We stayed at SSR in 12/09. Due to work issues, we had to change from Sept to Dec, and SSR was all I could get. WOW!!!! Was I pleasantly surprised!! Not sure why I thought I wouldn't like it. It's very relaxing and peaceful. The Artist's Point was nice, and although it seems small, we alwyas were able to get a table and never waited more than 10 minutes.

The pools are nice. My 7yo dau and I loved the walking paths. We would get up beofer the "boys" every morning and take a 45 minute or so walk. So pretty!!!!

If nothing else, better to be at SSR than not at WDW, right???

I enjoyed our SSR studio. Nicely appointed, and we had a great view of Downtown Disney.

I was wild about the outside and the plain concrete walkways, but that was a minor issue. The room was really comfortable.
