Talk Derby to Me!! - Official 2011 Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and Mini-Marathon

I'll be there! Woohoo! Looking forward to it and seeing the WISHers! :cool1:

Wow, I'm kind of disappointed. We have been running hills in Cherokee Park and I really felt ready for the hills. Did you notice the full is not going over the river anymore and they aren't running through Cherokee park anymore? Mike ran last year, but this would have been my first time and I was kind of excited about running Iroquois Park. Oh well.

I didn't look to closely at the marathon route - I can't imagine ever doing it. (Of course I said that about a 1/2 a year ago). My friend did the full last year and she said coming back across the bridge at the end nearly did her in.

I was really on the fence about the mini up until recently. I was going to wait til after the princess before I decided. As recent as Christmas I swore I would only ever do one 1/2. LOL I still don't like hills and avoid them if I can (not easy around here.) With the changes though I'm pretty sure I"ll do the mini. I like the idea of running through Churchill Downs. :)

I had toyed with going up to cinnci for the flying pig. It's hllly but I did the 10k up there last year and had so much fun that I really thought I'd try the 1/2 up there if I was going to do hills anyway. The flying pig was really a great experience that I really would love to go up for it again some time. With the changes though I'll stay local this year.

I think I might do this half! DH is doing the full Flying Pig on Sunday but this might be doable. :thumbsup2

I was actually looking at the Derby, but instead am doing the Hatfield/McCoy in June as we will be in Kentucky anyway to pick up our Grandson. Has anyone ever done that half?

Tiger Lilly 03 and tmansaster, I just updated the list of participants, was not sure if I should add you, just let me know.

Mike

I will be running the Half also! I've been kind of slacking in my training, so I definitely need to get it in gear!

Derby Festival Mini and Marathon at 95% capacity. If you are sitting on the fence you may want to act now. Rose just registered.

They also added a concert Saturday Night - Soul Asylum. Free for anyone with a finishers medal. Otherwise you need a Pegasus Pin, which should be about $5.

Derby Half and Full are sold out. They have reached 15,000 runners. There are a few Charity entries that will be sold 1st come 1st served at the Running Wild Expo.

Haven't posted for a while, but we are under 3 weeks until the Derby Half/Full. I am guessing most people either had their last run last weekend, or are planning it for next weekend.
Any interest in a meet race weekend?

Sounds like fun but I'm coming down with my training group and will only be down the night before, then headed right back to Cincy for Sunday's Flying Pig Half the next morning.

Any suggestions? Probably Friday would be best. We are staying at the Hampton Inn on Jefferson.

Does anyone have any suggestions on other activities/sight seeing kind of things that are cool?

The Louisville Bats (minor league baseball) are in town that weekend. The stadium is great and right downtown at waterfront park. There are games both Friday and Saturday night. There is also a cool skateboard park down by the stadium and a place to rent bikes.

Louisville Slugger museum is downtown as is 4th Street Live--which is an entertainment district with a Hard Rock. They have free concerts sometimes, but I haven't checked the schedule yet.

The Chow Wagon for the Derby Festival should be open at Waterfront Park. There are lots of restaurants right downtown.

Churchill Downs--Kentucky Derby Museum--is a short drive. The race runs through Churchill Downs which is pretty cool.

A very cool local restaurant is a short drive--Lynn's Paradise Cafe. It's one of our favorite places to take folks from out of town. It's located in the Highlands--which is how far the water made it during the great flood--way before my time. Bardstown road area--which is another short drive has tons of cool, eclectic shops, and a Fleet Feet in case you need one!

I will look and see if there is anything special going on Friday or Saturday night.:goodvibes

John & I would be interested in a meet. Like Pat, we are staying at the Hampton Inn on Jefferson. Friday would work best for us.

You and Pat are within easy walk of the ballpark.http://louisville.bats.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t416
A local restaurant that is fun but a little further out is Lynn's Paradise Cafe. http://www.lynnsparadisecafe.com/
There are a lot of restaurants where we could have a drink and listen to some music at 4th street live. http://www.4thstlive.com/index.cfm
There is a pasta dinner at the Expo and an "Old Spaghetti Factory", but since we are a gluten free family, we will pass on meets there.

If anyone is around Saturday Night there is annother baseball game with $2 drafts, and laterr in the evening there is a concert, with free admission for anyone with a finishers medal.
